Hmmm, what could this innocent looking tool be? A hint...it's a game changer for racing Hot Wheels....and I mean, a BIG TIME game changer

Another hint...

Take a close look at this fte...there are a couple things pretty special about it :)

If it's a tool for sanding wheels, then you're onto something right there.

I'm guessing you put the wheel inside your doohickey and then it spins around it, sanding it all around all at once. Nice even sanding all the way around.

If that's not it - that'd be a good idea!

Or it's a wheel+axle joiner thingy? A nice easy jig that lets you put a wheel on a axle nice and straight.

And maybe it's a spacer too. Hmmmm...I like this game....

More good guesses...but, no 'golden ticket' yet!

Don't worry, I won't drag this out too long!

:)

I'm just messing around!

I am using the above tool to drill and turn wheels on a lathe...and then, press hubs into them. The wheel pictured is just my "proof of concept'...I haven't run them yet.

I have a whole lot of leftover wobbly fte's, so I wanted to come up with a way to use them. But, in theory, I should be able to use any wheels this way...not just fte's

To add to the discussion...are wobbly wheels bad? CrzyTrkrDude's Demon, rumbled and thudded down my track to a second place finish. My 300C from Factory Wars (still one of my fastest) has a bum wheel on it.

In concept I agree smooth is best, and that is what I go after when building. But I also like the Narrowed Smitty wheels, or wheels with a thin ridge much like the Johnny Lightning and old Redline cap wheels... less contact area = less rolling resistance.

I look forward to seeing how these wheels perform, if they start winning, and domonating the competition... you'll need to make me on of those thingy's  :)

Great work here, way to re-think the box and use wheels that would be tossed.  Iswingping is making his own chassis... now this...  innovation all around RLD!

That is true...wobbly isn't always slow (and those Demon wheels weren't my first choice), but it is wasting energy :) I want those wheels dead true if I can get them there!

Even more ideas with axles and stuff! These are just 'proof of concept'...lots of refining to do...speed to be found!

Whoa, I just saw that Brian put this in the header a couple hours after it started! Cool!

C10 is putting his new tool to use already, follow along while he builds his '57 Chevy for the Pro Series.
