Aluminum frames...Custom 300's
Hmmm, this should be an interesting experiment...
I'm going to be making some custom frames based on the Chrysler 300 frame. I should have some pics next week.
The blanks weigh about 16-17 grams, so the final frames should be pretty strong.

That's the idea, Smitty. I'll be using the dimensions from the Chrysler 300 frame...but, it can be whatever :)
And I will probably mill 3 different options for wheelbase...a little shorter and a little longer than stock.
A Way2Fast Custom frame is also in the works :)
That's pretty awesome. I'm with stroller, could they be made to cover multiple wheelbase with different axle grooves?
What I'm planning is having one axle location on one end and three locations in the other end...it's 1/8 inch aluminum and the grooves will be 1/16 inch deep. There should still be way more strength than in the plastic frames. And besides, when you glue in the axles with JB Weld, you will be re-enforcing that area.
I'm also going to mill out the 'pan' in the center (around 3/4" x 1") and poor some lead weights to fit that area.
Of course, I'll do all of this, and it still won't be as fast as that Galaxy I put together in an hour! :)
That is AWESOME Chris!!! I can't wait to see them finished, and maybe use some :)
I know at one time you could mix and match and get an all metal 300.... If I remember King Carl had a few...
Watching the results of this one. This keeps up there will be a new diecast maker in town Raab's Rides....built for speed...
The B&G black '55 Chevy in the Sedan Race has a metal 300 frame under it! I didn't know they existed!
I should be able to copy them...and maybe improve it a little. It's going to be fun to mess around with them
The black 55 chevy belongs to Cortez racing, his chassis is from an older 300c, I had told him they fit the 55 chassis pretty good. He has no FTE's of any kind so he ran the orig wheels. The green hood on it is from a brand called M2Machines, seemed to me it fit very well.
There are other 300C metal frames out there with a plastic chassis. I have 3 I happened to find at 2 different K-Mart stores. If you would like me to send you one to use as a pattern just let me know and I will mail the entire car to you as it came. I plan on using the frames myself along the way and will buy more if I see any again, only found the three this year.
Landon
Whoops...sorry, yeah, Cortez! I like that car!
Thanks Landon, that's okay...I'll be using the plastic 300 frame to work from. I hope I have the time to get some work done on them this week.
hmmmmm.... would one not mill the axle's track to match the most common width FTE axles ?
just HMMMMing ....
