Bonneville Speed Week Race...

72_Chevy_C10 Wednesday, 5/27/2015

I'm just tossing this out here for some input...I'm thinking of putting together a race in August to celebrate Bonneville Speed Week. Since Bonneville got started after WWII, with guys driving their hot rofs to Bonnevills, stripping the Fenders off (and everything else), and seeing how fast they would go, I think that all the cars should be based off the HW '34 Ford chassis.

And, I also would like to use the HW speedometer to qualify the cars (since they are all the same chassis, the speeds would be relent to each other). And award points for qualifying speeds 5 for 1st, 4 for 2nd, etc....as well as racing the cars normally (drag races).

Any thoughts? Anyone want to host? Like I said, I'm still just tossing around this idea. Let me know

Spec class racing...sounds good. Levels the playing field, maybe 5 spokes?

Top pic is a chopped top '32 3 window coupe [they don't count the windshield because they called them windscreens]...  engine size determines the letter on the door...[c]

Bottom pic is a chopped top '30 /'31 model A rumble seat coupe and looks to be on A rails,  high compression finned heads and 3 deuces on a 59AB block

The land speed 200 mph club is a little misleading... to get in you must BREAK a class record that is over 200 mph...not just go 200 mph...? ? ?

 Good stuff c10 count me in to race and to host if needed !

  Hmmmm. how about 29 feet of DT at the gridiron. ?.. one lane only.? .. timed passes to determine the finishes. ? no being beat by having to race one of the big boys in round 1...

Dig it !

I have had this in  my someday box for years... here comes the sun... er... salt !

has been waiting in the weeds ;

Hmmm, not sure about the 5-spokes...maybe.

What is that body, Smitty?

The Speedometers works on how long the beam is broke...in other words, the longer the car, the slower the speed will read, the shorter, the faster. If you run a Mini Cooper through one, it will show really fast speed. This is why everyone would be using the same chassis.

I think that we should still drag race the cars, not just leave it up to speed. But, set up the brackets based on qualifying speed.

Keep the comment coming...I'll do an 'official' thread after hearing a little more :)

salt flats coupes ;

stocker, converted to 3 deuces and to a 5 window body,

chopped top with wheel wells hogged, hood sides added ;

  • I like it with hood sides and the hood filled — 72_Chevy_C10

I'm just stirring the pot on this one...I think that this would be a cool way to race. All racers starting with the same frame, with top speed also counting towards the points!

Oh, and I talked to Smitty the other day...his computer is still messed up. I think he already has several of these ready to go. He said that he has a few Speedometer's and he will put one up for a prize!

I'm going to shoot for August....I'll write up an official thread soon!
