Cars retired, not eligible for tournament racing?

Just looking at the cars for the Season 10 championship --- a lot (all?) of them say that
they are retired, not eligible for tournament racing? What does this mean, since
they're in the tournament championship?

Theyre separated as "retired" until after the championship so that they arent entered in other tournaments during the season after they've already won a tournament. After the championship the 15 losers are put on "locked" status and will be able to be purchased next season while the winner will enter the "hall of fame" and will be discontinued for all time! Hope that answers your question!

McJiggles nailed it. Occasionally there may be a bonus tournament that includes HoF cars for funsies and extra points but otherwise those cars are put on the shelf. The ultimate plan is once we have 16 seasons there will be the ultimate HoF tournament with just those cars to determine the all-time best car...and maybe the 15 losers from that tournament would then enter into the regular car population to be unlocked, kind of resetting things a bit so the HoF cars can race against newer cars.

Ok.... I was wondering why there were more retired cars than HOF cars... now I know.
