Champions Race 2015

Hi Guys,

I had an idea this morning...my best ideas generally happen before I'm totally awake!

The rules for the modified (drilled rivet) races seem to all be about the same, with the weight (lightweight, middle weight and heavy weight) and the theme (haulers, muscle cars, sedans, etc) being the variables. The dimensions are all pretty much the same, as well as the points systems and the wheels (fte's)

I was thinking that it might be cool to have a "Champions Race" at the end of the year, taking the top 3 cars from each race during the year and putting them all together! We could have awards for the fastest light weight (under 40grams?), middle weight (57 grams?) and heavy weight (75 grams?)...and also have an overall fastest car of the year, pitting the three champion cars against each other.

Something to think about for 2015...let me know what you think!

Chris

P.S. And this could also be done for the Stockers, if any stock races are held!

I'm up for it, but thats easy for me to say. I have a had a good run of fast cars of late. My only concern is excluding and dismissing the other racers who build and compete on a regular basis. They work just as hard.  But I also understand that if you want to be the best...you have to beat the best! To add to that... everyone does not get a trophy in life...regardless of how kids sports are run these days...

I think Weber cabin (Mcjiggles) posted this idea just before he jetted off the South America. just cant find the thread....

Set it up, might be a good race for over the Holidays...time off...all cars on one track...

JDC, was keeping this list up to date...and you can figure out the last few winners for 2014

It could be called the RLD Championship Series. And it would keep the general rules from race to race a little more uniform...you could just say "Use RLD rules, light, middle or heavy weight"

Just sayin' :)

TE,

The Champion's Race could consist of the qualified cars, plus each individual's fast car from each weight class (as long as it had run in the past year). That way, everyone will have cars in the finals!

And, like you said, it could be a race held over the holidays...to avoid shipping cars during the Xmas season!

Along with the Champions Race  how about having a "New Champions" tournament open only to those who have not won a championship yet.

If you did a playoff system

Figure we had a race each month in 2014. Top 3 cars from each race..36 cars.

Other cars/racers than need to race their way in should be new builds? Or old builds reworked and tweaked for speed… if you already have a car in the top 36 no new builds…if you had a car, but gave it away (Smitty) you can build…but to the original series specs?

All cars could then be qualified and seeded in single lane timed passes…(like Smitty’s timing system)

Regardless the top 32 single pass times make the show. Then match the cars up like in real drag racing 1 vs 32, 2 vs 31, 3 vs 30…or however

I know the different weight classes muddy the water here...as does 5 spokes vs FTE…again thinking out loud…

  • I like the idea of a playoff, but it seem like the light cars would have a hard time beating the heavier ones — 72_Chevy_C10
  • if wanted i will take the 1st heet and time all the cars in say lane 1, seed them from there. — model40fan

I'm glad that this idea seems to have some weight. I've been wanting to suggest some standard rules, and, if we have a racing series, it would be a good reason to nail down the rules.

But, I would like everyone to weigh in with their suggestions. So far, I like the idea of three weight classes (under 40 grams, under 57 grams and under 75 grams) , fte wheels, stanard sizes (orange track wide, 1.3" high, 3.5" long). The top 3-4 cars from each race qualify for the finals and at the end of the year, we'll have a championship in each weight class, with the winners racing off to determine the fastest car of the year.

I'm just trying to sum things up for now...but, I want everyone to throw in your two cents!

  • notice how many racers chimed in on this one, thats how it is supposed to work... — model40fan
  • I would put my 5 spokes in the mix with FTE's...let the times decide — Traction-Event

wow... I just scrolled through the standings... we have really run a lot of races... I counted 11 different winners...not to mention 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place finishers...

  • Ain't it cool? Darn right it is.... — Traction-Event
  • I cool with no wins no racing. I didn't make the Finals at my local track this year. I'm not mad just amped up to do better next year. — FatMike

Hi Guys,

I'm wondering if the Cops and Robbers race would be a good place to start qualifying cars for the Champions  Race (there might not be as many heavyweight races)...the top three cars overall will qualify? Sound good?

And, do you think the qualified cars should go into "impound"...in other words, should they just get sent to whoever is going to host (to me, Smitty or TE)...what are the thoughts on this?

Thank Guys!

I think this is a great idea; I remember the LJLRC hosted this for RLD a couple years back.  It was winners only (top ONE from each class), and they all raced together. That seemed to work pretty well (HalfFast Carl won with a weight-limitless Ford truck).  I suppose a series would be interesting, though I wouldn't want my car "impounded," ha-ha-ha.

(I'd actually already removed the "cargo" from my Purple Ram--but I was able to stick it back on a few minutes after I first read this.)

Hi Guys!

I just wanted to keep this thread alive...it might be cool to start the qualifying with the Cop-N-Robbers. In that case, the top three overall cars are Rally Case's two cars and Traction Event's Cop.

So, if you guys could set those cars aside, they are the first cars qualified for the 2015 Champions Race!

Sound good?

  • go with it... maybe a sloppy can slide in to the top three some time this year... — model40fan
  • Just a thought but if you took the top 4, all would be cool if a host forgot 3 vs.4 — model40fan

Sounds pretty good to me...I don't entirely get how it's going to work, but it should be fun!  (Just let me know what to do with my winners when/if I have any).  Also--while it goes beyond the podium, I can see four cars as possibly being a better number than three, for evenness's (wow--that's actually a word!) sake.  Or two if you really want to make 'em earn it.

  • Heck I save my losers so if I ever have a winner I will save it too. 2 or 4 cars will work better than 3 but thats your call. — FatMike

Hi Guys,

I wanted to keep this idea alive...I like that idea of getting a bunch of winning cars together and running them!

If we start the qualifying at Cops-n-Robbers race, and we take the top 4 cars from each race, these are the cars we have so far...

Cops-n-Robbers

   1 - Rally Case - GTO Cop

   2 - Traction Event - Mustang Cop

   3 - Rally Case - T-Bird Robber

   4 - *tie* Delta 6 - Cop and Traction Event - Robber

Wagon Wars

   1 - Traction Event - #57 Jack Hammered

   2 - Chevy C10 - #27 Chevelle

   3 - DadVBall - #24 '55 Nomad

   4 - Smitty - #91 Woodie

Crew Chief Challenge - Rods

   1 - Chevy C10 - #30 '32 Ford

   2 - Romanator - R Vicky

   3 - Chevy C10 - #42 Altered State

   4 - Traction Event - #26 '34 Ford

Crew Chief Challenge - Trucks

   1 - Fastalkers - #64 Bone Shaker

   2 - Smitty - #59 - Ford Pickup

   3 - AMH-412 - #21 Pickup

   4 - Chevy C10 - #33 Ford F100

Sedan Shootout

   1 - Luke11 - #75 - Galaxy

   2 - Traction Event - #14 - Galaxy

   3 - Rally Case - #39 - Fairlane

   4 - Fat Mike - #74

Pony Wars

   1 - Keef912 - Mustang

   2 - Traction Event - '70 Camaro

   3 - Chevy C10 - '70 Camaro

   4 - Stroller - '70 Camaro

Trans Am Race

   1 - Rally Case - Heavy Chevy

   2 - FatMike - Cuda

   3 - Smitty - Cuda

4 - Stroller's Camaro already has qualified above, so, Traction Event's Mustang is the next car

So, hold on to these cars so we can race them later in the year. I'll try to update this list every now and then!

  • fastalkers #64 was going to fred with a trophy i'm having made... he want;s the car... maybe a clone ? — model40fan
  • romanator is 4 years old... probably wants his too... do you have the next contenders ready ? — model40fan
  • I think a clone will be okay, Smitty...and Romanator can have his Vicky. All the cars don't have to make it back to he race :) — 72_Chevy_C10
  • go romo & fred go ! — model40fan
