Charity Grand Prix for breast cancer research

Along with an upgrade version of the Fantasy League, I'm happy to announce the first charity tournament. It's October and everything else is pink for breast cancer awareness month, so why shouldn't we try and help?

I'm hoping we can raise at least $100 to donate to the Susan G Komen for the Cure fund. Everyone here has been great in supporting Redline Derby so I'm hoping this is a way that Redline Derby can give a little bit back.

I ask that you each tell your friends and share the link so we can get as much in donations as possible - and if a few new people join the league along the way, that'll be great for everyone already playing.

If this first charity tournament goes well, I'm hoping to do one between every racing season, each one benefiting a different charity organization.

Cool. I'm in for $5.

May I have permission to use screen shots if I have time to make a YouTube video to promote the fundraiser?

Nice, I like the charity idea. I donated, but when trying to enter the password I was given, it says incorrect. Are we not able to login yet? Or do I have a bad password?

Edit: Sorry, I needed to enter it all in lowercase. My goof

Password confusion fixed. Caps or lowercase, both should work now. Thanks again for the report.

This should be a fun tournament. Brian: how did you pick the cars for this one? My girlfriend thought all the cars should be pink By the way, love the achievement trophy for this one. It's perfect~ TA TA "A Good Cause"

The best thing about this one is that it's mostly cars that aren't dominate. I like seeing different cars in tournaments.

I honestly just hit the "Randomize" button, pulled out the cars I didn't like, hit random again and kept doing so until it was a good spread of cars. And I did specifically pick them to be the "average" cars, some which haven't gotten much love otherwise.

Just like a tournament of top performers is tough to call, a tournament of nobodies is almost harder. Plus I figured it would help keep things fair for new people signing up and playing - which is one happy side effect I hope to see.

Brian

Great idea and thanks for doing this...I'll donate in memory of my fantastic mother-in-law who we lost 2.5 years ago to breast cancer. I donate to the charity every year anyway

In just one week we raised $100 for breast cancer research. I'm hoping given another week we can raise a $100 more...and then more for the last week!

Those of you that have donated already, I can't thank you enough. You're the reason we reached our first goal so quickly! To those of you that haven't donated yet...you have lots of time and you can donate whatever you feel comfortable. $5, $10...it doesn't matter...every little bit helps.

And I'll ask everyone to pass along the web address to friends and family through Facebook, Twitter, and wherever else you chat and share. Yeah, it's fun racing cars and all, but in the end this is about the charity so even if they're not interested in toy cars, they will know their donation will end up in a good place.

Two more weeks and then we race!

Well it's all done. We raised $150 to donate and that's more than I expected and could have hoped for, thanks everyone!

The tournament itself was actually pretty tight after the first round. The BMW M Roadster ended up winning the whole thing and player Idea Guy won out right with 185 points.

More tournament details and a video!

And with that, season 3 is right around the corner. More details coming soon...
