That's a nice setup. But slot cars have their limitations like coming out of the slot and having to have track marshalls putting them in the right one. I messed with slot cars in the late 60s. They were fun but they got so fast it required electronics to keep score. The best miniature motorized racing is MiniZ. Small enough to have in a basement but as realistic as larger R/C and reasonable. George

Thats what makes it so challenging though be able to floor that amazing speeds through banked turns and then the ability to get it slowed down without deslotting.

There are different ways you can go with them now. You can really boost of the magnetic downforce on them where its hard to come of the track. My favorite way is to run lots of magnet in the front and no magnet in the back. Then you are dirt tracking it through the turns with the back ends wipping around. Having good tires also makes a big difference. Softening them up helps or moving to a sillicone type of tire holds the cars to the tracks.

See for yourself how quickly they can move without deslotting.

Crazy!

I've been trying to figure out how to make a portable track like the Diecast Racing Action track.
I'm thinking a 4' x 8' plywood platform with all sorts of crazy track, loops, drops, hot wheels trick tracks stuff set up on it.

A platform isn't of much use for a downhill track; But a 4' by 8' frame would be a good base for a open-lane Gravitywerx-style track. One could use Sizzlers Fat track and instead of making a circuit the banked turns could be turned away (if the connectors allow) and make a switchback-style layout. 2 sets of Sizzlers track could make a 4 straight and 4 turn raceway. Jumps could be added but there's enough action without them. The supports should be made adjustable in case it's too fast or slow. If the connectors don't allow alternative layouts then an elongated corkscrew arrangement could be constructed that would be less than 2 feet wide. Sizzlers track by itself is reasonable on ebay. Hopped on the YouTube and watched a few videos and didn't realize that slot cars had gotten so awesome. I mean, I never had anything more than your Tyco track when I was little but lane swapping and pit stops would totally make slot car racing a lot more fun.

But much like my old train set, I think I'd get more joy out of designing and building the tracks than actually racing the cars.

"Nightstalkers" Majestic Raceway back in the 1990's. that's the 155' King Track, also had a 70' Tri Oval and a 178' Scale 1/4 mile Drag Strip.
