HWC Day finds and a hobby shop gold mine

This weekend was a heck of weekend for car shopping. Not only was it the first HWC day of 2011 at the KMart, I found a great hobby store in town that sells older model cars for a buck.

The KMart yielded a lot of new cars. Not all of them were HWC specials (if any) but I hadn't been out to the stores in a while so they are all knew to the collection. A few variations of old favorites but otherwise a hefty stock that will be added to the Fantasy League for season 4.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

People say they don't read bus bench signs, but I did the other night and discovered a hobby shop in town that even had "diecast" on its advertisement. I checked out to find their diecast selection wasn't very big (it was mostly a train store) but the pegs they did have were stocked full with late-90s model cars...all for a dollar! I grabbed the ones that looked like interesting racers and even found a blackwall Testarossa!

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

Finding the older cars for still only a buck was pretty exciting. The hobby shop also had some $2+ cars, even some vintage cars for around $10, but after spending $25 on cars in one day I needed to keep myself under control.

Needless to say, all of these will be added to the Fantasy League for the new season, which means it should be another interesting and challenging season of racing.

What cars have you scored recently?

God find!

Theres nothing like finding diecast in an out of the way place - especially if it has treasures like those.

We made it to our K-Mart days and we got three T-Hunts. One is a Super Hunt and I haven't been able to convince my boys to sell that one for $40+ on Ebay as they are going high right now and put that money back into other racing cars. Sigh...

We kept ourselves to 16 cars as we had to scoot and get to our races. We got those three THs (Two GTOs and one Vette Grand Sport). We also got two of those Back to the Future cars. I have been waiting for those cars because of their look.

My oldest son opened the Danica Patrick race car and that thing was really quick. My youngest son opened the newest Fast Cash car, just okay.

The others:

Chevy Camero Concept
Danicar-Red
69 Ford Mustang-HW
Fast Fish-Blue
68 El Camino
Plymouth Duster Thruster-My fav of this bunch
63 vette
07 Shelby GT-500
2010 Ford Mustang GT-FTE

I love finding those cars from the 90s. If you find a good racer, its not likely that anyone else will have them.

Some sweet scores there everyone!

Man I don't know if I'm hitting the wrong stores or what, but 2011 Hot Wheels selection has been pretty lame here in Austin. There aren't too many I'm looking for for but I see so many new cars online that I don't see here. I really want the Mini and the Back to the Future Delorean. Picked up a few this weekend at the grocery store but that's about it.

Really dig those old Hot Ones...300zx with operable doors!

Glad you found the hobby shop Brian, reminds me of the one I found...but the cars were 89 cents! I think I bought over 20 FTE cars there...
