WANT MORE INFO ON THE H.W.C.'s american production cars only, quarterly mail in race... and how to join the hot wheels club that's hosting the race... googling h w c bombed...

Step 1: Go to this site and register: http://www.hotwheelscollectors.com/
Step 2: Look through the message boards. An announcement is suppose to be made soon about the November race.
Step 3: build/test/repeat

I'm glad to hear that, Smitty, because I always thought I was the only one that didn't enjoy the HWC site. When I first started getting back into collecting I naturally went to HWC but found it a not-so-great experience...and I'm not just talking about the forums but the site as a whole. It's dated, it's hard to use, it's ugly (ie, hard to read) and just all around pretty poor. I'm sure the content on the site is wonderful but unless you can navigate and feel good about yourself, good content is worthless.

I'm sure the demographic for HWC skews older but that does't mean you have to give them old technology.

I should also vent that I abandoned HWC because when I tried to go on there and talk about Redline Derby, I got chased away as a spammer. So their strategy is obviously a little different than I would expect. And frankly, my experience at HWC motivated me to try and make the RLD site a more enjoyable experience.

Sorry to vent...web design is my business so when I see a site that I want to love made so poorly it upsets me

...and maybe someone should tell HWC about the Redline Racing Calendar...that would at least help people get the correct link to the right page!

I never even think about checking out the content at HWC. Pretty sure a long time ago it seemed like a pain and I don't even think about it anymore. I just go straight to the forums. Check out the customs and the "collecting hobby" stuff. That's about it at this point. Maybe once a month.

After reading this thread I went to look for the mail in race. Couldn't find it. Found a different one that was run yesterday.

The forums do seem do be very "Mattel/Hot Wheels only" which is pretty narrow minded, but I'm sure you'll never convince the managment of that.

I guess I don't blame them for keeping the forums Hot Wheels-only...they're in a serious business and you don't really want to promote the competition. However, it's unfortunate that you seemingly can't post links to places that promote Hot Wheels (like this one). It's all collector-car talk and nothing else...seems a little narrow minded but whatever.

well at least is was not my lack of surfability that kept me out...
also the HWC's nov. mail-in doesn't allow cutting castings... they seem to think custom paint and wheel swaps a custom makes...
try that at a car show !.............. darn good thing R.D.R is around,
thanks B...

Looks like I am in the minority. I visit that site probably every day. Mainly for the forums. I don't think I am the only one through, as I see some of the same user IDs over there. Some even get plugs in for the Redline Derby Racing site.

I like to see the stuff that people are finding both new and the old stuff at garage sales and flea markets. Have met some people on there in Iowa and got them to come to our league races. It is good free advertising for the league by posting them in the events. Someone even came from the Western part of Iowa to the Eastern side of Iowa, just to race with us.

There are threads about racing and races, but they are mixed in with everything else so you have to watch for them or search for them. The only criticism I have for the forum is that I wish there was just one single one about racing.

Also a good section on HW Customs.

See...its not all bad.

I might have to check it out again. Last time I tried to promote Redline Derby Racing I was chided, they thought I was spamming.

I like the forums there.

Maybe Brian if you don't have a lot of previous post over there they just thought you were coming in to spam and leave, regardless of how relevant the info was/is.

Also sometimes people are just jerks. I've had nothing but good experiences of there as far as interacting on the forums goes.
