Input needed-Please respond.

Tobacco Road will be open for racing in late May (info and pics to come later-still building), my question is this...what kind of field would people like? I was thinking maybe Funny Car only to start, give those heavyweights their own race, but would want it to appeal to the community as a whole. I just want the inaugural race for Tobacco Road something the community wants to participate in....whether  that be Funny Cars, Open Class, Muscle Cars etc., so help a brother out with your input for deciding upon the field for Tobacco Roads first race-Thanks in Advance.

Muscle cars would be nice maybe run a common chassis race, a little bit tougher to build but it seems to bring out the creativity in people.  I'm cool with funny cars too that would be fun and i've never modded one before.

From my experience as just a spectator, the stock races like the Derby Dash attract most participants.

I think the last one had over 20 cars racing. It allows the new people and novices to dip their toes in and may give them the confidence to enter other races throughout the year.

I like seeing the specialty races like pony wars, revival races and the Govner race, but it's usually the same people entering. I'm not saying it as a bad thing, just a reality. I guess you have to ask yourself what kind of "Opening Day" you're looking for.

Anyway, I mainly like Redline Derby because I live vicariously through all you guys. Which ever race you chose, I will be rooting in the sidelines.

I would second what Will mentioned...stock races have gotten a lot of response in the past because it's easy for everyone. That doesn't mean you can't theme the stocks...all muscle or all trucks or whatever...just keep it a little broader. And if you open it to any brand, then that lets the non-Hot Wheels guys enter too.

And it's a been quite a while since we've had a stock race. We get very into the weeds with mod stuff and while that's fun to watch and see what gets built, it can be a turn-off for some. Even if you're more of a builder, it takes less time to find+ship than it does build+ship.

I'm pretty confident I can't build a car faster than Voxxer or Traction or the other top guys, but I can find a car that might give them a run for their money.

  • Good points, i'm in no matter what kind of race. — Jdub3000

Truth be told, I was considering a stock funny car with only dry lubes allowed (or not)...just stock. The funny cars tend to be fast on their own most of the time and seem to need their own event. We will get it sorted out and it's not like this will be the only race held on Tobacco Road.

  • This may be one of the 1st races that we will enter.Great idea!! — Rusty

Rip-n-Race races are always fun, too. The racers send in unopened cars and you races them...it is a great equalizer! The first race I ever hosted was a rip-n-race, using just the 'Workshop' series cars. Tgat was a 'winner take all' race...might be a good way to break in your tracks!

Just my 2 cents

Get your Funny Cars ready to race, some simple parameters before the actual post concerning the race only.

Stock Funny cars/Stock rivets

Dry lubes only....no tinkering with weight etc.

So, if you don't have any Funny Cars.....start shopping and get some for the race in late May....official details to come.
