I met Larry Wood at the Nashville convention a several years ago. Well, maybe not "met" him per se...stood in line and got his autograph. Actually, rode in the elevator with him and had some small talk. He wore some crazy shirts throughout the weekend. It was easy to spot him.

Although, in a very noobie moment, I had him sign a collector version of the Red Baron I had won at the convention...however, he didn't design that car. Dumbass me just assumed the man had designed every classic Hot Wheels and of course I had the one he didn't. But he happily signed it anyway. My own version of an "error car" I guess, ha. And yet one more bit of proof that I'm really out of place at a conventions.

It's funny because if I actually had time to talk with him, I'd probably ask him more questions about working within the toy industry and dealing with Mattel than I would asking him how he came up with a design for any single car. Anyone who's created anything draws inspiration from somewhere. That part doesn't fascinate me as much, it's not something I think that has a formula, it's just organic. People like Larry were lucky to be given a means by which to have those creations produced for mass consumption. Truly a case of having a job you can love...that's the story I want to hear.
