Race axle idea...

CrzyTrkrDude Sunday, 1/31/2016

As we all know, and i'll sure have been following our good comrade and friendly rival C10 with his brave explorations in the art of race axle bearing experimentation.

I wish him the best of luck and patience in what looks to me to be a very precise and challenging idea. I hope it works out as you hope!

My idea might be a little off the wall and on the surface so obvious that there might be a bunch of palms smacking foreheads by the end of this post...

Nickel plated FTE AXLES right?? We've all been seeking those little bugger's right??

Different lengths, size wheels, inexpensive sources... All the stuff.

Frustrating, yes? And the cost... Yikes! 2 axles for a dollar or more, plus the awful  " Do I really wanna drill this cool car??" Feeling. We've all been there. Admit it.

How's about.... 250 OR MORE AXLES for under $3.  Complete with the end hub. You can custom cut to any length, and will fit right into the standard axle tube, ready for glueing, or crimping. With no fear of wasting or ruining an axle because the cost is a mere pennies!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls...

I present....

Size 17 Nickel plated straight pins.

Good Luck!!

one of my first customs used hat pins and it worked kinda but the hard part is capping the end reliably and consistently.

I haven't revisited that idea since but knowing more now and with more tools, might be worth a shot.

Hahaha.  I've been to so many sewing and fabric shops looking for 8mm nickel plated pins.  Not sure they exist.  Im sure I don't need to give Chris any more of an edge, but since you're already tubing the car and the wheels, just look for hobby tubing to fit the 6.5 or 7mm pins.

The other issue to keep in mind is how smooth and friction-free are the ends? Bad axles are usually more of a friction builder than the sides of the chassis.

I dunno.  All I know is the one time I put a wheel on one ( a new solar formula solid chrome wheel skinny at that) it spun forever.

Maybe the thinner axle had something to do with it? But it spun 10 times longer than the stock wheel.

There is only one way to find out I guess... Someone has to try them...
