Remember to link to official threads

Just a hint/tip/suggestion for the cases when an "idea" thread turns into an "official" thread - usually when we're debating specifics about a tournament and then it becomes a real thing.

When the creation of the official thread happens, always go back and add a link to the old, unofficial thread. At least add it at the end of the thread, or you can also add a link to your top post so when people arrive they know right away that the discussion is continued elsewhere.

Another option is to lock the topic so it doesn't accept any more comments...however, it appears as though this can only be done by me (the admin), which was news to me until I just tried it. So if you want a specific topic locked because it is now continued elsewhere, just shoot me a PM and I'll get that done for you. Sorry it's an extra step, I totally thought it was something a topic author could do but I guess not, go figure...something I'll get fixed in the near future.

We all know that information can get pretty fractured in a message board, so directing traffic is critical to making sure people get the latest details and correct information.

I think it would be better if the site administrator were the only one able to lock a thread. It would keep a jokester from signing up a fake name, and locking everything, essentially freezing up the site.

Or just their own thread.

Yes, only authors of the topic would be able to lock.
