Season 6 Championship recap

And there we have it, after six seasons of tournament racing, only the second non-Ferrari car makes it to the Hall of Fame...Turbolence! A donation from JDC442, Turbolence was a rookie this season that quickly earned its way into the championship with only one loss on record. After one season Turbolence will be retired to the Redline Derby Hall of Fame along with the Ferraris and Cadillac.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

But lets not forget about the OTHER major championship that was decided! The top player race of Season 6 was neck-and-neck between And the HUGE win goes to Worpex! He ended the season with 2235 points, only 20 points more than SSLS6 to take home the gold, the trophy and a $10 gift card.

But wait...that's not all! There is one more championship to talk about too, the Redline Derby Team League championship. But I'll let Commissioner seattlegreyy handle that one. Look for his highlights later today.

So lets take a look at what happened on the track...

The first match between the Wildcat and Ferrari 512M. The Ferrari, a favorite, if for no other reason than being a Ferrari, almost got snubbed in the first round against the Triumph. That race was a lot tighter than I think anyone would have expected. After a back-and-fourth with the Phantasm, the Ferrari settled in and waited to see who it would go up against in the third round.

The Side Kick didn't waste any time taking care of the other What-4-2 FTE in the first round but then had a bit of a trouble against the lighter, sleeker Turbolence. After Turbolence blew by the Diablo in the first round, the call against Side Kick seemed like a toss of the dice. But seeing Turbolence laugh at Side Kick in the second round told me that Side Kick was too heavy for its own good. It will beat anyone out of the gate and down the hill, but when it comes to the flat out you need more and Turbolence had it. It would be Turbolence and the Ferrari 512M in Round 3.

On the other side the bracket, the other Ferrari in the race got lit up by the Dodge Challenger Drift Car, an unexpected entry into the championship in the first place, proved his entry wasn't a complete fluke as he edged out the Fat Fendered '40 and then showed the FeLion that Mopar is not one to be messed with. Perhaps an unlikely pick, but the Drift Car was now in Round 3 waiting for its next victim.

And here's the upset of the tournament...Firebird 400. The Firebird and F-150 was one for the ages. Both cars were well-raced veterans of the league with lots of experience and this first round match could have gone either way. Neither pick was a risk, but the Firebird squeaked by the Ford with an epic come-from-behind drag down the straightaway. If you had the Firebird or Ford going through to the final round, you probably weren't alone but Rodger Dodger had some other plans and takes car of the Firebird 400 without much trouble at all. Maybe the Firebird was tired or maybe Rodger just wanted it more, I don't know, but the final round was now set between Rodger Dodger and Turbolence.

It was a championship round of rookies, both cars were new the league this season and both had impressive records. Rodger Dodger was undefeated as it took the gold in its first tournament, but Turbolence's record wasn't too shabby either. If you went by the numbers, Rodger Dodger out-rated Turbolence, but the blue streak that is Turbolence had a few grams on the blown engine of Rodger so who knew...well, Turbolence knew. The final set of races were possibly the most anticlimactic of the entire tournament, as Turbolence dispatched Rodger Dodger without so much as breaking a sweat.

As usual, this tournament was taped and is up on YouTube for review. And I apologize ahead of time for my crappy video editing skills. See it all go down here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2kJZtsp5qQ

The Season 6 Championship tournament was another one for the books, well worthy of the Jedi archives. This tournament saw a lot of fan favorites square off while also seeing a lot of great rookies show their stuff. One thing is for sure, however, Season 7 should be full of surprises now that a lot of veterans have been retired. It's time to see what cars will step up.

Congratulations to Worprex on the win and a BIG THANKS to everyone that played this season. Once again it was 17 tournaments full of great racing and fun. Thanks to everyone that made donations this season and to everyone here in the forum for keeping things fun both in and out of the fantasy league. I hope to see everyone back for Season 7 that will start in only a couple weeks...and hopefully some new players as well.

Woohoo!! Thanks all! Was a great season! I actually picked the Rodger Dodger to go all the way and face the Phastasm FTE in the finals. Turbolence is a nice surprise! Was a tough fight between SSL and I, truthfully, I didn't think I had a chance, but the Rodger Dodger came through for me and netted me enough points to clinch the lead in the very last race. SSL is going to be one tough opponent next season though... can I get him on my team?
