The new (and last) season starts this weekend! Lots of rookie cars are in the mix in these first 3 tournaments, along with some old favorites...will the veterans be put in their place?

Baja Bug, but the Delorean might surprise us. The Twin Mill vs Camaro FTE should be a interesting race as well.

unlock a special achievement worth 20 points.

Turbo Lover - This tournament is more or less a mirror match for many cars, with FTE versions taking on their non-FTE counterparts. This will be a bracket that will help prove (or disprove) if FTEs are really faster. All in all, not a lot of new faces in this set...the new Mini, Beetle and Hot Wheels 500 all make their debut and out of those three, I'll be keeping a close eye on the Beetle. Not only does it look hot but I think it's got what it takes to be a winner this season...maybe not in this bracket but it'll get there eventually.

Some very exciting match-ups to kick of Season 7 as we start the beginning of the end for 2011 racing. I don't need to tell anyone how important these early races are in the points race, and don't forget that this season's champion will be taking home some nice collector cars from Tom's Diecast Cars. Pick wisely and good luck!

Are we still getting email alerts that tournaments are available to have cars selected?

I didn't get that one--but I did get the "brackets are now available to be picked" alert.

There were never any alerts for the "Enter a car" reminder, only the "Pick brackets" reminder and the results summary.

I manually configure and send out the e-mails for the seeding and results since I have to do both of the those things. However, I don't have any automated way to send out mails yet and since the open for entry is date+time dependent, I wouldn't want to have to manually send that out because I don't know exactly when that would be.

I mean, I can send out entry reminder mails, but I can't guarantee when they would be sent out. So if a tournament opens at 3PM on a Saturday, I might not be able to send out the reminder until that evening...so you'd get your reminder and click the link, but by then all the spots could be filled up and that does you no good.

If I can find some sort of nice/easy/efficient way to get mails sent out automated-ly, I'll certainly do so. I've been looking into some newsletter services to see what they can offer on the cheap, but none of them really do all I need it to do.

The self-serve method that I might look at if nothing else fits the bill, is adding a "Set reminder" option that will add an event to your Google calendar or phone or something like that.

Although...now thinking about it, I might be able to make an automated Twitter message go out when the tournaments open. It still won't be exact but it would be something. I should tie tweets to all those actions, really...hmmm...mental note.

Sorry...nerded out there for a moment...nonetheless, reminders and mails are being thought about.

Brian,

You do tend to nerd out from time to time...oh yeah...so do I!

Wow, I have to say the first tournaments of this season didn't go down like I expected. Good job to all the top scorers this week as I think some of these brackets broke down right in front of us. Lets see how it all went down...

GMC Motorhome surprised spectators as well as it kept up with the smaller, agile Camaro. It was a back-n-fourth race that could have gone either way. I suspect we'll see that RV back in the lineup the next change it gets. The new Camaro FTE also proved that Faster Than Ever does't always mean so, as it failed to put up any sort of offense against the Twin Mill car. In the end, we'll see a lot of these cars again, I guarantee it.

Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
Greased Lightnin' aka Too Tall Jones

20 bonus points for entering the winning car. Good pick, Jobe!

Elsewhere in the bracket, the Weinermobile saw its first (and probably only) win it will ever have against the Panoz which no one expected to be slower than a hot dog on wheels. The new Lamborghini 4-door took care of the rookie 442 and showed impressive speed and very smooth performance, but it met its match when the loaded El Camino came from behind in the stretch. Putting the engine in the back of that car was a great idea as the added weight back there certainly made a difference and took the Chevy all the way to Round 3. The GT Racer was back on a mission after showing off a bit last season, and did well against the Phaeton in the first round and then took car of Retroactive without much trouble. But before you right off the Phaeton, it did MUCH better than the Vegas odds might have suggested. But after all the tire smoke wafted off into the sunset, not even the GT Racer's weight and speed couldn't compete against Greased Lightnin's length. It looked like Kareem Abul Jabarr going up against Jackie Chan in a dunk contest.

Hot Wheels 500 Indy car just about smoked all the competition to grab the checkered flag. The only speed bump along the road was the final set of races against the VW 181 and that was quite a battle. The race car took the gold but the VW has nothing to be ashamed of...it'll be back.

Week 1 Top Prospects: '92 Mustang, '68 El Camino, Phaeton

Top 3 Players after Week 1: Multispeed, GSR Microracing, IowaStockCars

Thanx for the summary, Brian.

I underestimated the low profile Indy cars.

Not anything like I expected or picked for that matter, but better than the zeroes I put up for last season's first tournaments by missing the pick deadline.

At least you're not in the bottom 3 like me I'm losing my touch.

When rookies racing for their first time take 2 out of 3 tournaments, it's bound to catch a lot of us off guard. But wow Brian, you really are third from the bottom Guess you'll have a great opportunity to impress the field by making a sweet comeback though.

huh, strange results indeed! I didn't expect the Greased Lightnin' to be any good, mostly because the one I have drags on the track with the crazy metal fin on the bottom front. Perhaps I just got a dud.

I did horrible this week. The worst part was, I couldn't choose a car for the next week because my power was out for 3 days from the nor'easter. : / Was able to see the results through the mobile version, but their isn't an option to choose cars on it and for some reason the button to show the site in normal view doesn't work. Oh well. This looks like its going to be a bad season for me already, haha.

There is nothing ugly about a Javelin.

What can brown do for you?

The only thing making that Javelin ugly is the FTE2 wheels. Otherwise that car is very good looking.
