Use the Thumbs Up for praise, quick comments

You'll notice now that all topics and posts have a Thumbs Up icon below them, similar to what you see on Facebook. When you click the icon a text box will appear where you can write a quick comment.

Use the quick comments to give praise and kudos to a post you like or enjoy. This will help save on having a thread full of posts with little more than "Good job" in them.

However, unlike Facebook, you must provide a comment when you click thumbs up...it's not just an icon that tracks clicks.

Quick comments do not "update" a post and thus will not flag the topic as unread or send out any email alerts, so you can use them as much as you want without worry.

It should also be noted that topics and posts are no more closely monitored and if there is a full post that appears to better suited as a quick comment, it may be converted without notice.

So that means if you are the original poster (OP) you will have to also go back to that first post to see if anyone "accidentially" asked a question there or posted some useful feedback in order to be able to see/find it.

Then each subsequent poster will need to do the same thing...and so on...and so on.

That one will take some reprogramming of us users to look for - particularly as the coordinator or scorer.

You are correct in your understanding. And yes, it will take some conditioning for sure, even for me.

After some time if we'll see how the quick comments end up getting used the most and if there's a case for them to trigger some sort of notifications or alerts or something, then we'll consider that then. For now, it's just a nice way to say "I like what you've posted" without adding extra length to the page and keeping praise closer to context.

Although, now thinking out loud, maybe part of the condition could be a dashboard section that shows your authored posts and a "Like" count or something. Or maybe an activity log...I dunno. I kinda don't want to go down the route of being just like Facebook but if that's how people seem to want to use it, then it can change.

Reminder bump about Thumbs Up and using them for quick comments regarding about a post. It's best not to use comments to ask questions, do that with a full reply. Use thumbs up for praise, notices and comments that don't necessarily require a reply.

  • you should make it possible to actually post a "Thumbs Up" in here as well. lol — CrzyTrkrDude
