Weight Class Racing?

Starting in 2014...we are going to start racing in "Weight Class" to make it fair for everyone coming out to the event. I was kinda thinking of running the classes like a fight. Example (Flyweight, Featherweight, Middleweight, Heavyweight, and Super Sumoweight Modified) Just a thought...this way the cars might be more evenly matched. What do ya think?

WE DID THAT IN OUR LEAGUE... WORKED WELL.... MORE WINNERS...
WE SPENT A DAY WITH A SCALE, WEIGHING EVERY CAR WE COULD FIND TO FIGURE WHERE TO DIVIDE THE CLASSES....
THIS WAS OUR FINAL CLASS LIMITS...
MOST CARS WERE BETWEEN 30 AND 40 GRAMS...
CLASS...................WEIGHT LIMIT
ALLSTATE CLASS ... 0.00 TO 29.9 GRAMS
B F GOODRICH CLASS ... 30.0 TO 33.9 GRAMS
COKER CLASS ... 34.0 TO 36.9 GRAMS
DENMAN CLASS ... 37.0 TO 39.9 GRAMS
EXCELSIOR CLASS ... 40.0 TO 44.9 GRAMS
FIRESTONE CLASS ... 45.0 TO 50.9 GRAMS
GOODRICH CLASS ... 51.0 TO 60.9 GRAMS
HOOSIER CLASS ... 61.0 TO HEAVENS TO MERGATRIOD !
...
ANOTHER PLUS WAS THAT WE RAN ALL CARS IN BOTH LANES, DIDN'T MATTER WHICH CLASSES RACED, [ALL TIMES RECORDED] THEN AFTER ALL CARS HAVE MADE 2 PASSES WE ELIMINATED THE FASTEST 4 TIMED CARS IN EACH CLASS... THIS HELPED KEEP THE PEOPLE AROUND... AND THE YOUNGER RACERS LIKED LOSING AS A GROUP RATHER THAN BEING ELIMINATED EACH RACE...

Not sure what you mean..."Losing as a group"? Please explain more for my slow mind.

I divide up my cars into weight classes. I swiped them (the class breaks) from Smitty a long time ago...added in a Middleweight class because that's a common class here at RLD. Also as Smitty mentioned most cars are between 30 to 40 grams so further sub division right there (between those weights) isn't bad. I suggested having some "standard" weight classes here at RLD but, well, you know. I named them A, B, C ect for simplicity, then renamed them when they became common classes/weight limits here at RLD.

Class A: 0 to 24.9 g

Featherweights: 25 to 34.9 g

Class C: 35 to 44.9 g

Middleweight : 45 to 57 g

Class E: 57.1 to 84,9 g

Class F: Funny Cars All

Class X: 85 to 100g

The 57 gram break for the middleweights came, because it's equal to 2 ounces which had become a popular break on some other Hot Wheels racing sites. We here tried to keep it uniform. Also when we were building and customizing Featherweights we frustratingly discovered that fast stockers were beating our customs. The 57 gram weight is just beyond most stock Hot Wheels and you're gonna have to build something if you want to compete in that class.

I think the racers will like having different classes to run in and of course more winners.

I also like what Smitty did with the tire brands instead of just A, B, C, etc...

....
when our league first ran normal races, every pass had a loser...
kids today get a trophy for showing up everywhere they play, no one loses...
some kids threw mini fits because they couldn't continue to race after losing...
so later on we recorded the times,
with the racers sitting waiting for the fastest four times for each of the [7] classes to be called, the kids just "didn't win"...
instead of "losing", standing at our DRAG TRACKS starting gate....

How long is it going to take to weigh the cars? That would be my concern.

We went two directions--Heavy Metal class, all metal cars. Granted the older cars have the advantage but some of the newer ones sneak in there from time to time. Then we have the Feather Weight class where you have to have either a plastic top or plastic bottom (or both) on your entry.

We have other classes as well that reference that Heavy Metal class.

Kids-No Heavy Metal cars/trucks
Rookies--No Heavy Metal cars/trucks
Trucks-Heavy Metal cars/trucks allowed
Muscle Car-Heavy Metal cars/trucks allowed

These are all stock cars.

Thanks for that reply...for the smaller kids we have a Super Six lane setup so they can race and bash their cars and keep them happy...plus a coloring station for kids that just want to draw. We try to have something for everyone so they don't get board. But sometimes that's not possible.

The digital scale I have will show the weight as soon as the car is placed on it...1-2 seconds at the most.

So the idea is we submit cars at whatever weight class we care to do and then it's put in race against other cars in the same weight class. So you never know just how many racers will be in each race. That sounds interesting to me............That is right isn't it?
