What do you consider a long track?

The upcoming site race track directory will be grouping tracks by length, at least into 3 buckets

  • Short
  • Standard
  • Long

So I'm looking to see what y'all consider short and long.

To me, if you say you have a "short track" that means under 12-feet long. And if you say you have a "long track" that means 20-feet or longer. The standard track would hit the average curve, which I figure is between 12-20 feet.

In the old Fantasy League we also grouped tracks by style but I don't think I'm going to do that this time around. Or if we think that's valuable too, I can add it later. But I figure having stats per track size is a better metric.

So what say ye? What is your "long" and what is your "short"?

The 20' 7.5" quarter mile length should probably figure in there somewhere...that's what my track currently is.

Under 12' is definitely short, and I would say that over 30' is plenty long...just my 2 cents

Love the idea of a track directory, Aircooled and I were just discussing one. I know the site used to have specs, drop heights , and photos of home tracks. This was great for understanding how to build your car...long gradual slope? steep drop? long flat? Burnout start? these are big factors.

less than 15ft short track

scale 1/64 mile 20.7ft etc

medium track is 15ft - 30ft

Long track 30+...

Sweet, thanks for the input - keep it coming.

Here's the old track directory the site used to have when the League was still around.

The new directory would have a lot of the same data (hopefully I can copy most of it over) along with more photo options and details. The new directory will be very important since it'll be used for almost any new feature added to the site...everyone should want to register their track(s), not just to show off but so they can be considered for hosting, fantasy league, etc.

Using the 1/4 mile length as a reference for grouping is a good idea.

Now thinking

  • Short < 15'
  • Standard 15'-25'
  • Long > 25'

  • OK, cool — Nightstalker
  • Sounds good. Just for another perspective, since I don't have a permanent track, I think in terms of 6 foot sections... — MoHasAFastCar
  • ...cause that's whatt fits under a queen bed. So my standards are 24' of track — MoHasAFastCar
