Cool Tune... RAAB alignment tool for axles...

model40fan Saturday, 12/6/2014

Just used the RAAB alignment tool for the second time, I jb riveted a FTE Vette rear axle into a '68 Cougar base, the front grillwork tends to align the rear axle ;

Then I hacksawed an angled "down under" axle slot, drilled, filed, pre-fit,

Note the weight holds the front axle deep into its groove,

Note the rear axle is not all the way into the groove, but it hits the upper edge at the same point working as an alignment tool ...

Mock up ;

rear wheel wells hogged, front axle mounted down under, "shaker" induction ...

Thanks Smitty!

They are pretty easy to make...and they do seem to work pretty well. Getting the cars to roll straight is pretty darned important!

If anybody wants one, just let me know!

I just ordered some material for these from McMaster Carr. So, I'll be able to make them for the people that have asked for them.

P.S. If you've never been in the McMaster Carr site, it's pretty amazing...raw materials for WHATEVER you are making...

I tried a new material for the jigs...a machinable plastic. It's a little hard to see in the pic, but it works nice...

  • if you mill a slot, please make it the width of '55 gassers nose, so it can be tipped upside down... — model40fan
