Formula One is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is the highest class of international racing for single-seater formula racing cars. This sport became the World Drivers' Championship in 1950.  In 1981 it became known as the FIA Formula One World Championship. Several races called Grands Prix are held all over the world over a single season. These races taken together are called a Formula One season. The word ‘Formula” refers to a set of rules that all participating teams have to adhere to. Grand Prix is a French word that translates as grand prize in English. The races are run on tracks that are graded “1” by the FIA. Hence the name Formula One was adopted.  In 2021 this sport was adapted for Diecast Car Racing and became known as the Formula $peical, or just F$.

F$ Season 2 - This is an F1 inspired Diecast Racing mail-in event with 7 approved castings that you can choose from.  We strive to give this the look and feel of real F1 racing.

This Event Season will not be cheap. The castings we are looking for are very collectible. We are going to give generous tips to the tracks that we run on for their effort and so they can enhance their tracks. Teams will also be chipping in to cover the mailing cost between race events, track usage, and for prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for the season.  We will be securing sponsors once again to help bring the costs down.

I'm volunteering my time and effort to organize this event, and will be chipping in money as well. I welcome others who would like to help out in any way or by simply providing advice. We need tracks that can handle 6 cars at a time and open wheel cars at that.  The tracks also need to have a timing system for qualifying.  These ideally would be two lane starting gates with open downhill track.  We are also open to considering applications to participate in this Event Season. You must agree to mail-in an appropriate and approved casting for your Team, and contribute the money required to run this event as outlined.  Teams/Drivers who competed in the 2021 F$ Season will have first pick at a spot on the 2023 Grid.

(UPDATED) ... THIS YEAR, we are accepting more than 18 entries but limited to 24 Teams.  Teams/Drivers will qualify ahead of each race event to dertermine the starting positions.  The top 18 qualifying Drivers/Teams at each track will compete at that track.  So it is possible to qualify at one event but not another.  Therefore you may not participate in any or all the race events but you will still be in all the qualifying sessions.

Not for the weak of heart, this is for serious 1:64 scale Diecast F1 Racers who are looking to have some serious fun.

We have sponsorship provided by Custom Diecast Metal Signs by Meekin and Florence Turgeon.

The first pre-season race will be run on our own track, Snow Valley East, to kick off the season and to demonstrate the Grid Formation Tournament rules.  We partnered with Shredder Speedway and MnM Diecast Racing last year.  Unfortunately, even after becoming part owner of the former MnM Diecst Racing, now BlackHills Speedway, that venue will not be available in 2023.  We have recently added Down Squad Racing & Jack John and Katie Racing as an additional 2 Host Tracks for this season.  I can't wait, this is going to be a blast.  Start your engines!!!

Rules & restrictions

  • Choose from 7 Pre-approved Castings (See below)
  • Casting must remain intact: Include Driver, no visible weights, original casting design
  • 1 Entry per Person (Team/Driver/Car) - Optional 2nd Car (see rules for details)
  • No restrictions on Wheels, Axles or Weights (Black/Gray Wheels, i.e.: NOT clear or orange)
  • Car numbers required (Lets make then unique this year)
  • Dry lube only
  • No weight limit
  • Like F1, Rules may evolve over time

Original paint is welcome (although you may need to remove numbers and add our own numbers). Painting and adding decals is also welcome.  Cars can be stock weight if you so choose (it is not easy to load these castings with weight).

Optional 2nd Car (Backup Car)

You may send in two cars.  They must be the same Casting, Colour Scheme & Number.  You are allowed to use different Wheels and Weight.  The 2nd car, or the Backup car, must be marked with a "B" on the car livery or undercarriage so that they can be distinguished from each other.

(UPDATED) ... To simplify the process, both cars will be allowed to qualify and the car with the best result will be used for that race event.  Next season, Season 3, we will be moving toward two car teams only.

Dates & deadlines

Event will take place in the Summer of 2023 (postponed from 2022).  All entries must be received by the host before Saturday, 04/30/2022. Pre-Season Qualification is scheduled to start for Saturday, 05/28/2023. Results will be posted on or after that date as is convenient for the host.

For an extra $5 (discounted price), you can also join the Le Mans GTE PRO/AM Class Race Series.  Returning 2021 F$ Teams/Drivers have first choose at participating in this new race series. Check it out here:  www.redlinederby.com/topic/le-mans-gte-proam-class-race-series/4851

Grid Formation Tournament Rules:

We will be using our own Grid Formation Tournament rules.  This has been updated to a combination of GRID-6 plus GRID-4/6.  There will be a Grid of 18 cars.  For GRID-6, the Grid will be split into 3 Groups of 6 car each (P1 - P6, P7 -12, P13 - P18).  These are referred to as Group 1 (Lead Pack), Group 2 (Middle Pack), and Group 3 (Last Pack).  There is a total of 5 Laps.  Each Group goes down the track once for the 1st Lap.  Any cars that DNF are moved to the back of the Last Group and the cars move up from the 2nd Group and Last Group to fill any spots that have opened up by cars that DNF.  This way cars move up and down the 3 Groups.  To add to the ability to move up the Groups even without counting on DNFs by other cars ahead of you, each even numbered lap will be a GRID-4/6 formation.  For GRID-4/6, the Grid will be split into 4 Groups of 4 + 6 + 6 + 2 cars (P1 - P4, P5 - P10, P11 - P16, P17 - P18).  The winner is the 1st car across the line from the Lead Pack on the final Lap, Lap 5.  See our Season 1 Event to see how GRID-6 (without GRID-4/6) works.

RULES UPDATE:  August 8th 2023

Race Finish under Red Flag conditions:

After the Grand Prix of of Illinois ended under Red Flag conditions, the FDRL ruling body and F$ organizers have approved the Race Finsih under Red Flag conditions rule.  It has been decided that if a race ends (Lap 5) under Red Flag conditions the drivers will regroup and run an additional final lap (Lap 6) in the GRID-4/6 (4+6+6+2 Grid Formation) format.

Red Flag conditions are when one or more of the cars in the Lead Group crashes (upside down) and/or one or more cars are held up by a car that DNFs the lap. The Lead Lap should complete the last lap with a clean run or at least no crashes or DNFs that hold up other cars unfairly.
In the case of a Red Flag final lap, an additional 6th Lap is run in GRID 4/6 format by reforming all cars on Lap 5 based on the rules. Cars that crossed the line first, followed by cars that DNF in order of DNF from bottom of track to the top. Cars that crash out of the race are removed from the race.

Points Awarded:

Teams/Drivers are only awarded points at the end of the 5th Lap.  Same as F1, 25 points for 1st, 18 points for 2nd, 15 points for 3rd, 12 points for 4th, 10 points for 5th, 8 points for 6th, 6 points for 7th, 4 points for 8th, 2 points for 9th, and 1 point for 10th.  No points for 11th to 18th.  There is a bonus 2 points for getting Pole Position at the start of the race and 1 point for fastest Lap during the race (as long as you also finish in the top 10).  Note that Drivers/Cars must cross the finish line on the last lap in order to receive points for the race event.

Qualifying & Race:

Each race venue will have a Qualifying Session to determine starting positions for the race.  Each Driver will get two qualifying runs.  Teams with two cars will be allowed to qualify both cars and choose the one that qualifies with the best time.  Only the top 18 cars will qualify for the race out of the 24 registered Drivers/Teams.  The race will consist of 5 laps with the GRID-6 | GRID-4/6 | GRID-6 | GRID-4/6 | GRID-6 race format.

Cars that arrive broken or that break during racing will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins/continues. Teams/Drivers may replace a car during the season by notifying the tournament host and sending in a replacement car.

I would like to confirm Ava, and KCLH Racing to be in the 2022 Season.  We are having a great season, and now that we almost have the Rookie year behind us, 2022 will be better.

Thanks for the Invite and look forward to this awesome event.

After a disppointing season one with Cole Williams as the driver for Gen-X Vintage Racing, team owner Kit Kayem has given his former driver the boot, and will be taking the wheel himself in the Gen-X Vintage #9 Thunderstreak in season two.

I see there's to be a grand Prix of Kentucky. So who in Kentucky is hosting this event. Im from Kentucky and I have never seen anyone from this state host a mail in event.

  • They are new and don't have a YouTube Channel yet. They are penciled in for now until we can see their track and how it works. Tracks must be able to handle 6 cars at a time and have a lap timer. — MarcusFiregone
  • I know there's a few several faces. I'm curious to see who steps up. — CrazyEights
