Garage Tech: Axles
it won't, but the engine is worth the buck $
Lube - spin - lube - spin - lube - spin....race - race -race!
No luck!
I did notice that both axles appear to be semi-locked in place. The are not rotating, but they do slide from side to side. The lube has made it easier to slide them though and I have them loose enough to stay centered in the chassis now. Either front tire was rubbing against the chassis a bit. With them Centered there is still no forward improvement in speed though.
Getting ready to bring out the drill...
Get a set of jewelers files and go to work.
I have the jewelers files already, but wow! According to the PWD sites I need diamond dust, a micrometer, a miniature lathe, wheel balancer, alignment machine, pipe bender, drill press, some Mothers polish, and some floss (in place of pipe cleaners) to do the wheel bores!
Even at 1/64 scale - racing gets expensive fast!
poor man's diamond dust = old toothpaste, pepsodent etc. but you need to rinse it ALL out [grit] or it will eventually eat the axle surface...the Bannister brothers used it to micro-polish all the rotating surfaces in their flathead ford racing engines...
of the wish list, I only have clockmakers files...
...and I use is a drill and a screwdriver. Maybe this hobby is too expensive for me...........

Reading your signature line.....3rd, and a couple of 2nds....not bad results for a drill and a screwdriver....
FInally have gotten around to drilling out the Chevelle. Reversed the wheels 180 degrees and no change. It still ran better backwards! So the FTE wheels and axles are going to a Gasser chassis. I did break out the needle files and took off some spurs on the axle of the replacement 5 spoke wheels and it made a great difference in spin time and race quality - not quite an FTE racer but respectable.

I have bought everyone I have seen just for that engine!
poor man's diamond dust = old toothpaste,
I used to use the original colgate paste as a paint polishing compound on my model car builds!
I saw one of those at Target this evening. Not sure if it will clear the finish gate!!!
