The links to both documents in this thread are messed up.
- Thanks. I'll update the links as soon as I can. — redlinederby
- Link fixed, thanks. — redlinederby
- I lied. the Google Doc link isn't fixed. I'll ask TE to update that. — redlinederby
Just a notice that including YouTube videos in your posts appears to be messed up. It's high on the fix list but just a heads up that your post may come out looking weird if you paste in a video URL. Sorry.
I noticed tonight the pictures on a iPhone are smushed horizontally. Makes em look a little funny.
- Thanks, I'll check it out — redlinederby
- I noticed some compression in some photos last week as well - is it the resizing script? — Milton-Fox
- Images are resized on-the-fly so compression is pretty heavy — redlinederby
I have noticed the last two days that when I get a new private message, I get 3 or 4 of the same message sent to my inbox. Also, when I first try to open it, it says "500 Internal Server Error" or something similar to that. I have to then re-open it in Saved Messages to be able to read it. The same error message comes on when I try sending a PM to another member.
- I'll take a look. Thanks, sorry for the trouble. — redlinederby
- I am getting just blank pages everytime I open a message or thread. When I reload or close and open the page fills in. About 10 times now. — Milton-Fox
- Yes, I'm seeing the same thing now too. Working on it as we speak. — redlinederby
- I just updated a file that should fix the problem. Continue to post if you still see it — redlinederby
Brian, sorry to bug you again (no pun intended!) but I found another bug for you. The new notification system keeps telling me that I have new PM's and Comment replies, even when that is not true.
- i think it takes a refresh or two to reset the system,? — Traction-Event
- I've seen it too but it's inconsistent. I'll keep looking but might take a bit — redlinederby
This past weekend and today I have noticed that the "jump to last reply" button in the gassers, before and after and bare metal series thread are only jumping to the middle of the thread.
- Tons of photos, bogs down the page/threads — Traction-Event
- Yep, the long race threads take awhile to load due to all the pictures. — KandORacing
- Yes, it's doing what it should but slow loading photos make it jump — redlinederby
- Try and be on a slow internet connection. It sucks with it like this. — iowastockcars
If that is the case then a script error needs to be corrected as it should go to the last post directly and then load the photos.
I am on a super fast connection and all the pics load almost instantly, but the thread still opens to posts from weeks ago and I have to scroll down to get to the last post still. The longer the thread gets the more it sucks for me as well.
- Not much I can do. I'm not in control of how fast images load or in what order they load. — redlinederby
Back to the new notifications. When I opened RLD just now it showed no comments or responses, but I see 4 thumbs up comments and noted two posts in other threads....
I'm seeing similar things that you are regarding notifications, I just gotta find the right Jenga block to pull without toppling the entire tower.
Here's how it is programmed to work...when you first login, the system looks at the number of unread PMs and new Thumbs Up to give you a count. When you go to your dashboard it should remove the number of Thumbs Up, leaving the PM count (until you read those).
Then every 5 minutes (while you're still logged in) the system does another check and updates the counter with PM + Thumbs Up.
The notifications aren't instant. There's a good chance you could go to a post and see new comments before the counter refreshes. However, even if you have, the counter should update because it's not tracking when you actually saw/read the comments, it's just resetting when you visit the dashboard.
The problems we're seeing with the counter still showing a number after you visit the dashboard is something not being cleared out in the site memory (cookie). The inaccuracy of the counter is the thing I'm still exploring and trying to be more reliable.
I noticed some changes today with the post counts, but still doesnt seem right. I had no notifications when I logged on. Made a couple of post replies and comments and then I had notifications for both as replies too, but they were for my posts?
The jump to last reply is landing at the end of all threads for me now instead of the middle and staying there - thanks!
- Do you have a software on your computer that erases browser history to avoid cookies? — KandORacing
- We have it like that on this laptop, that might be why the notification system dosen't always work. — KandORacing
- Browser cookies shouldn't be an issue. I'll see if I can duplicate Milton's situation — redlinederby
I'll keep looking...you reporting that it's counting your own replies is certainly an issue if it's true. I'll see what I can find out. When I logged in just now the counter had "2" and there were 2 thumbs up replies to a post and other conversation, so it counted correctly in that case...but I'll see if there's any bad math somewhere in the system.
Is anyone else seeing similar incorrect counts when they login? The more data I have on the problem the easier it will be for me to solve and fix.
Browser history shouldn't matter in relation to alert counts because I'm doing all that on web server side of things, not within the browser client. But that doesn't mean there isn't an issue with the server-side cookies so I need to verify that I'm doing all that I can.
I noticed that the "Unread" sorting feature isn't working correctly for me. I clicked the Unread button and it told me there are no new posts. I then noticed there were several posts in at least 3 threads that I hadn't seen yet.
