Roll-up raceway finish line, worth it?

I'm looking around for a new finish line gate and see the Roll-up Raceway has a basic one like I have now. I know a few of you have played with this track so just wondering if you it worked well and if you think it can be removed from the playset and used independently?

Or if anyone has a playset w/ finish they'd be willing to sell, I got money ready to spend.

i cut the base away from the indy 500 roll-up...tape the roll up track ends together leaving a 2" tab on either side to hold it down... [be aware, toys r us unit narrows towards the top] ... made a couple brackets that screw to the raised sides of a dual lapcounter, the finish line unit slides down onto the brackets...mine has not failed yet !... cheapest i found was $15 plus shipping, online [amizon]

I picked up this track at the Toys R US under $10 sale a few weeks back. Bought it just for the starting gate too. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I will say it is smaller than a standard, old style finish gate. the opening for the cars are quite small. Large casting such as lifted trucks, etc. would have an issue getting through from the looks of it.

If you do go this way and have a TRU nearby, save yourself the shipping and buy it there. Everyday price is $15.99.

ditto on the lane SIZE, also it is a LAUNCHER style track, spring loaded, no starter as we know it...
the indy 500 roll up is taller and has square upper corners where the toys r us rig arches in at the top...
both work well, toys r us can be trimmed with a hacksaw and file... see re-build track topics [by kharvest],
i saw he pictured his modded, [trimmed and center upright removed] toys r us finishline .

So I got to try out the roll-up raceway finish line today. It worked great. Flag popped up for the winner. On a few races there was a tie where both popped up slightly, but not all the way. One race was even so close that the flag raised slightly higher on one than the other, as if to indicate is was very close but not a complete tie. I didn't end up modifying the gate yet, just layed orange track over the "roll-up" track, butted up against starting gate. Then I put a few strips after the gate, with a connector tucked under the end of the gate. No problems, not much shifting. Can't complain at all for 10 bucks.

Sizzler's dual lapcounter and Indy 500 roll-up raceway finishline ... Sloppy Finish ; Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
.
it allows HW. orange track in, and HW. orange track out to the stop towel...
raised 3/4", may need a shim before the finish depending on car speed.
the red tipped dowels protect the finishline during transport.

center support beam has been removed from the TOYS R US ROLL-UP RACEWAY...
side structures have been heated with a candle and reformed with plyers to make reversed 90*s to fit flat on the base of the counter...
the padles are a bit high but i wanted the trucks to be able to make it under the header...
the mating surface of the siderails must be cut to width...
then 3/32" holes drilled through the finishline unit, stay away from the lap counter's # wheel...
useing the T R US as a template, drill 3/32" holes through both the white and orange plastic...
tap the holes through the T R US side rails to 1/4"-20...
then enlarge the "orange" holes with a step-drill, stop when the orange hole is about 7/16" dia. and the small end comes through the "white" hole by 3/8"...making the white hole 1/4" plus...
tape a small 1/4-20 screw to the end of your screw driver...slide it up through the large orange hole then the white hole, carefully screw to the T R US side rail finger tight, repeat with the other side...
fine tune the fit and then tighten the screws.... remember !... the lane # stickers [1 & 2] are facing the wrong way...

That's a good looking set-up with the lap counter.

So I went out to TRU and got the roll-up raceway but they have changed the finish gate significantly compared to previous iterations and photos online. I'll post a photo soon but the finish gates on the one I have is easily HALF the height of the one I have now (from the V-Drop) and compared to the photo in the first post above.

I'm sure I could take it all apart and mod the hell out of it to get it to work but I don't think I'd have much confidence in it at that point. I'd wager that none of the trucks/vans we regularly race would fit through the gate. They always say "some cards not for use with some sets"...no lie this time.

So be forewarned that unless you're looking for a lot of customizing, the roll-up track currently selling at TRU will not do the trick.

Gonna run through ebay to see what's there but at this point am also just thinking about sucking it up, buying a Judge and not have to worry.

ditto B,
toys r us rig is short, I mount it on a dual lap counter for added clearance, but the thing still has much shorter paddles
the INDY 500 roll up [blue] has the tall with square upper corners option...it is supposed to be the rear doors of a trailer truck... it is what I use...much longer paddles... $15 plus shipping through amazon.
... JUST GOOGLED INDY 500 ROLL UP RACEWAY... $15.90 PLUS SHIPPING...

I found some old finish gates on eBay for like $10 or so, might try one of those - but also have a message into the Judge guy to see if he wants to do a sponsorship thing so we'll see if that pans out. If not, I'll have to mod what I have or get a vintage one off of auction.
