Street Rods vs. Wagons Showdown
Saturday, January 10th, 2026Welcome to the Street Rods vs. Wagons Showdown! It's time to test your creativity to make these two types of vehicles off-road.
A fellow diecast racer suggested I should do a street rod tournament... so why not? Street rods are fairly simple to turn off-road due to their open wheels. If you aren't sure what you have qualifies as a street rod, just ask me!
Off-road station wagons may be a little more challenging to build, but that doesn't mean they'll be any less cool! Any wagon, except fantasy wagons, can be used.
*Limit one car per household, so you can only sign up for one of the teams.
*NO FANTASY STREET RODS OR WAGONS! Only real-life castings can be used.
*8 Spots available for each team
Rules & restrictions
- Modified entries only
- 65g maximum weight
- Size limits: 4in. long x 2in. tall x 1.5in. wide
- Limit 1 entries per household
- Retail axles and wheels only. No FTEs simply because they aren't knobbies!
- Any lube, as long as it doesn't drip
- Wheels must be 7mm knobbies
- Your build can be a frankenbuild, as long as it has the body of a street rod or wagon
- Loose axles/suspension allowed and encouraged
- Family-friendly decals and drivers only
- Weight added to the base of your build is allowed and encouraged
- Make sure you have at least 1/4in clearance underneath your truck
- No fantasy castings allowed!

Race format and scoring
This will be a double-elimination tournament. The 2 vehicles with the most points will advance to the next round.
Checkpoint style scoring will be used. The checkpoints are marked on the side of the course. If any part of the vehicle passes a checkpoint, it will receive the points for crossing.
A 1 point penalty will be added if your vehicle ends up on its side or roof. If your vehicle rolls over and ends up back on its wheels, no penalty will be added.
1 additional point will be added to the first vehicle to cross the line each race, if any vehicles do make it.
Qualifiers will be run to seed the bracket.
Penalties/DNF
Cars are given a grace of 1g over the stated weight limit to account for variance in scales.
If a car fails to meet any of the restrictions listed above, the car will not qualify for victory. Offending cars will still race. Finish position and any prize will go to the runner-up in the case of the penalty car winning.
Cars that fail to run or fit on the track, or that happen to break during racing, will forfeit their matches. Cars that arrive broken will attempt to be minimally repaired before the racing begins. Cars that break during racing will not be repaired or replaced.

Discussion
I'm in for team Street Rod!
Team Street Rod for me!
You had to know I'd be up for this! And that I'd be sending a rod.
Sign me up for a wagon!!!
In for wagon
Looks cool but not much ground clearance

- Hey, Uncle Elvis won with less ground clearance than that ;). Very cool build! — ManiacMotorsports
- Looks good as can be, but.. The challenge will be to stuff any meaningful amount of weight in there. — Justin_Thyme
- Yeah.....I'll be on the "light" side. — Dutch_Clutch_Racing
I'll try an off-road wagon of some kind.
Sign me up if you please. I'll go with a street rod.
I've crossed this great nation in a station wagon (as a child) in the very back, no seat belts, and lived to tell the tale. I'll build a wagon.....
Duuuuuude!!! I'm in for team HotRod! Funnily enough...this layout looks vaguely familiar...lol... let's chat
- Haha yeah you are in! I didn't have space for a longer layout of this sort, but it does work well! — ManiacMotorsports
