Another completely different and maybe utterly stupid idea would be to run a zip line down the track at height with the video racer angled downward. In my mind it seems feasible......

bought a video camera, I may set up some old garage door runners [rails] and run the camera down rails... but it's been 90* plus here all week, my garage's attic is sweltering...later !

Those Video Racers take pretty decent video but you need to use them in a very well lighted area.

As for your mule, I would suggest a model that has a wider stance. The VW Bus is a bit on the skinny side and can wiggle in the lane.
