Anyone else following Le Mans this weekend?

I've been waiting for this weekend all year....the 80th running of the most grueling & spectacular auto race in the world. Sure, there are many 24hr endurance races held of racing circuits throughout the world. But, to me, the Le Mans 24hr race truly defines what auto racing is about....the "best" drivers in the world driving(and debuting) the newest automotive technology in multiple classes on the most dangerous & unforgiving coarse for an entire day. The drama that unfolds @ Le Mans every year is the stuff old "Speed Racer" episodes are based on with "Vorsprung durch Technik".... Prius owners!!

I spent a little money with TRD back in the 80s so I'll be pulling for this one!

Each lap is approx. 8.5 miles and they turn both ways. This ain't NASCAR, it's real racin'!

I couldn't have said it better myself. I'll probably watch the Michigan race afterwards. Chances are, it won't be nearly as exciting(yawn).

You know...I like watching the GT cars and the F1 cars but as an event, I just can't sit and watch it for long. There's no action...there's lots of awesome cars but not much in the way of drama. I don't watch NASCAR religiously or anything but at least there's some excitement happening.

BUT...if you ask me, the ultimate is RALLY RACING. Cool cars, lots of action and sweet moves. There's nothing better. I was pissed when the Speed Channel stopped showing WRC late nights.

There is an ongoing joke among 'auto parts' personnel....Whenever they nationally televise WRC races, we usually sell LOTS of oil pans to wannabe street racers afterwards.

Im with Brian on this one.

NASCAR is my thing and will religiously watch it every weekend. Trucks, Nationwide, and Sprint Cup. For me, I think a lot of it has to do with me racing on ovals as a kid with go-carts and going up against a few that made it to the top. Raced against Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, and Greg Moore (Indy Cars who later died in a racing accident). To get back into racing as an adult, got started with my website dealing with local dirt track racing which gave me the opportunity to get into NASCAR events for free as a media member. Have been able to interview some of them, I can get down on pit road, and in the victory lane. When he was just a young kid, got to ride with Landon Cassill in a two seat car at the local race track. He is a local boy that has made his way up to Sprint Cup.

My sons want to race something, but I just can't pull it off with the $$ it costs anymore. Its an expensive hobby that you lose lots of money at.

Although AUDI swept the front row, TOYOTA Racing will start the Le Mans 24 Hours - its first race - from an impressive third and fifth on the grid after the final qualifying sessions at the La Sarthe circuit on Thursday night.

(parts of the above were plagerized from the world wide web)
