Anyone else seeing a price increase?

Ok corporate cheapness has struck again.  Earlier this year I bought a mad fast and used the metal engine on a custom car, Nightfright. I want to do a follow up to that car, so I bought another mad fast.  The engine is now plastic. I want to like new hot wheels, but they keep getting cheaper all around.  Paint, tampos, materials, even the designs just don't do it for me.   I will stick with the old castings.

  • Just as a heads up, I recently found two Mad Fasts at the store, both from 2025, but one had the plastic engine and the other a metal one. So there seems to be some manufacturing variation aside from year-of-release. — Moparius
  • Interesting, the metal one was tan the plastic one was red. — Sunshine_City_Garage

Indiana Hotwheels 5 packs are 7$ at Walmart. And I don't even want to talk about Maisto clocking in at 8$. A piece I think it's $1.50 each.

Still finding cars at Vons and Ralph's the cheapest 2 for $3 or 3 for $4. Pavillions also. I have seen cheap to exspensive in Walmart but not for hotwheels these are the other brands.

I noticed mainline Hotwheels at my local Walmart went from $1.18 to $1.24

  • Seeing it here in Bardstown too. Premiums are going for $8 after sales tax. — Benjamin_37

If you have the Dollar General store APP, you might get lucky for a special.  A few weeks ago there was a Buy One, Get One on Hot Wheels and Matchbox.  This is without the coupon.  Then that same time they had a buy $25 and get $5 off.  I ended up with quite a few cars, and the wife bought a couple of things to hit the $25 mark; then they took off $5.  So I got the cars super cheap; IE: Half Off plus the $5 off divided amongst all the items for even more pennies off each car.  I think it was 19 cars at about .59 cents each for the Hot Wheels and .69 cents each for the Matchbox.  The one Maisto car was not part of the sale.  But a good haul for some new toys.

Well I said I was finished buying mainlines if they increased past $1.25, of which both HW and MB have now done in my local area. I stopped buying premiums much earlier this year when they cleared $7/each.  I laugh at all of them as peg warmers now. I have hundreds of cars to turn into racers so I don't need the latest stuff any way.

  • that is until that one place you love to race at has a contest for one of those cars! — Stoopid_Fish_Racing
  • Right there with you BadWool! More money for a cheaper made item? No thanks, there's plenty of old cars out there. And if the axle is bent and it doesn't have all its paint it has the excuse that it's 50 years old. — Sunshine_City_Garage

$1.20-1.75s here in the Rocky Mountain area. They had a $0.99 sale at a store I was at yesterday...by 15 year old daughter grabbed my arm and said..."No dad. We don't have time for that."

Absolutely. That's why I'm not buying cars.

They have been the same price here since I started collecting here a couple of years ago. May have gone up a penny or two in a couple of places (under $1.20 at Target and Walmart). Still a very cheap hobby in the grand scheme of things. Target has been running bogo and 30% off sales as of late as well. Still 3 for $5 at Shaws which is the most expensive in town. I haven't been since Thanksgiving. Finally making some progress on my track build in the basement. Won't be a 3D, EP or Boss quality build (shout out to Boss Championship Racing for the inspiration on this near side, two lane turn...elevation actually goes up there on the left and slows the cars down a bit before hitting the open track) but it has been fun so far.
