Are these cars worth the asked price ?

Deedose Saturday, 5/27/2023

Recently, while looking at the new hotwheels castings at my local shop, I found a bunch of premium cars that costs 12 euros --> 12.8 $. I've never bought any premium car, so I have no idea if they are any good for racing. It seems these castings are entirely made of metal, but if that's their only advantage, I don't know if they are worth the asked price compared to a regular casting that is at least 3 times cheaper here in France. Are these cars interesting to buy for racing? Or are they only collector cars with no interesting attribute ?

Have bought a couple. Not worth the price at all. The "speed" part of it are supposed to be axles and wheels designed for racing. The two I bought both got gapped by a mainline Baja Bison

If you are willing to drill/tap them and polish the axles and sand the wheels and bump the weight, they might be faster. I was thinking about that but havent had the time for another build thats not already started. They are COM6 wheels, kinda hard to find those on other castings.

  • Not really, they need to be worked. Then maybe so. They look good and are plastic, thats a start. — Redline_Salvage_Inc

From what I've seen and read...they're trailer queens...or ...I guess shelf queens would be a more apt analogy...they're no better (and some would say worse) than mainlines when put on the track...

so...there are better options out there for custom racing...

they look fantastic though...however I did pass on them last time I went through the Diecast isle.

  • In this case, I'l pass on them too — Deedose

The Porsche was too damn cool to pass up, had to get it. If my track was still purely drag, it might not be so bad but my kid really enjoys the turns and mario kart sections so its not anymore. Anyway, its too slow and heavy for it to be any good on my track. Still a really sweet car though, I'll just keep it on my desk as a show piece.

If speed is the objective then stay away from these.

  • okay, thanks for the advice — Deedose

I agree with most. Don't buy these for speed or wheels, per se. I usually get these type if I like the body style. But not worth $12 in my opinion regardless.
