Great tips! Any chance I can re-post that video on YouTube so I can embed the video?

I never thought about filing down and polishing the chassis, wow. That does change thinking a bit. My mind always leans towards worrying about weight but friction is bigger beast, huh?

  • one might try "draw filing" the wheel to base contact surfaces... — model40fan

In keeping with making these cars "Speedy', I'd like to mention the importanceol of 'endplay' on the axles...in other words, having your axles be not too long and not too short....but just the right length.

One thing that is really going to hurt your speed is having  your axles too long. Your car might have good speed, but with long axles, your car is going to want to 'wiggle' at speed...and that is going to scrub speed.

If you are using axle tubes, it is very easy to set your endplay, otherwise, you will want to find axle and chassis combinations where  the axles fit very well.

Just my 2 cents!

Thanks TE! A video demo is best. A picture is worth a thousand words... a video is worth a million!

thanks TE, that may be just what the rest of us need to close the gap at the top...

I tried the 1" x 3/8" disc buffing wheels on my dremel before... they went fuzzy fast... but, with TE's drum style buffing wheel it stayed together... I knew it was going to work well, as I could feel the axle spinning inside the wheels, no flat spots that way... the '29 Ford "MULLIGANAGAIN"  is the test mule...

Great video Chris!  It may be possible to make my cars even faster now ;)

  • Smooth filed axle hubs + polishing = even faster JDC — KandORacing
  • te has also been sanding his wheels to round...HMMMMMMM..... — model40fan
  • I think JDC and HalfFast used to do that as well... but they used the Rick Ways technique of doing it. — KandORacing

FYI, the wheels polished in this video are in use on the 56 Chevy truck RLD is running in the World Race
