I'm kinda liking these little guys...

Might be tricky, making them go fast!
Metal chassis and body...fun, fun...

- Love that car. Just looks fast, even stock. Can't wait to see how you improve it — redlinederby
- It's probably just going to be a little weight and some FTE's...I like the 'Herbie' look! — 72_Chevy_C10
- Go Herbie go! — Traction-Event
Got my first FTE I'm going to use it for a mod in the bug out beetle bash race festival next month!
Don't quote me on it...but I'm gonna try to get something built for this. Prepare to have a Herbie Face-Off!
- darn it... where is the quote button... :) — Traction-Event
- Okay...I'll be working on my 'Herbie' pretty soon! I'll be ready! — 72_Chevy_C10
Hi Guys!
I'm just bumping this one to the top! We are 4 weeks away from the start of this one, and I'm still looking for some hosts! TE, would you like to run them?
Who is building cars for this one? I'll be working on my 'Herbie' car this weekend!
- I'm building two for this one got my first FTE the other day so I'm excited to see how those will run. — Eastbound357
- Yes I can host....what date? — Traction-Event
Herbie meets his donor front wheels ('69 GTO fte)...

I glued the wheels in a little differently this time, gluing one axle at a time. I had to narrow the chassis a little bit to get clearance for the front wheels...

I apply the JB Quick with a toothpick (and I mix it up on old HW blister backs...we all have lots of those!)...as always, I like to put a little extra JB Quick on...

The rear axle is from my 'go to' car, a Chrysler 300...and it is actually a little bit wider than I would like, but I think it will work...

I kinda like the way Herbie looks with the FTE's...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151010_210626_zpstkobri6z.jpg
But, he is a little light (can be 57 grams), I'll work on weighting him up some time today...

I was just up at my Mom's, and look what I found...

My old Matchbox 'Ladybug' car...I think she might need a new lease on life..
- Sweet bug — Traction-Event
- Wheels + weight and you're set. — redlinederby
- I was looking at it...I think I know what I'll do with it! :) — 72_Chevy_C10
That is a 50 caliber (half inch) lead ball on the scale, next to Herbie...and it makes him just a little heavy...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_185639_zpsfmspjbug.jpg
Adding weight to these cars requires subtlety and finesse...and a hammer, a really big hammer...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_185701_zpsud6pwofe.jpg
And, once the lead ball is no longer round...in any way...you can refine the shape and weight of the now block of lead with the above-mentioned hammer and a big, rusty, chisel (rust, not manditory)...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_185846_zps3ihs04k6.jpg
And now, the lead sits nicely in the frame...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_190006_zpsaghd59jb.jpg
It is a little light, but that gives us plenty of 'wiggle room' when gluing in the lead (don't forget the weight of the JB Weld)...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_190030_zpskydha1yq.jpg
I ground off the pin on the chassis to move the weight back as much as I could...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_190528_zpsvikvymbx.jpg
And, I had to remove quite a bit of the interior for the weight to fit...
http://i1074.photobucket.com/albums/w407/critterwerks/20151011_191457_zpsoxztwp0q.jpg
But, the body now fits nicely, with the lead is securely glued in place...

Hi Guys!
I just wanted to bump this one to the top. If I get a chance, I'll be working on my Matchbox Beetle this weekend. And, since we are 3 weeks out, if you are going to be racing, you should be getting your cars ready!
Who all is running in this one?
- Still shooting for it but I'm cutting it close. 50/50 right now, hopefully... — redlinederby
- I've got a modded matchbox volksdragon from a previous event that I'm going to "re-mod" using some of the speed secrets — cliffordshaw
- That you and TE have been nice enough to share. We'll see if they can turn a dud into a stud. — cliffordshaw
- Awesome...it's always fun to see what you come up with! — 72_Chevy_C10
Hi, I am a newby, but I want to race in this event. I am Strollers Nephew and he will help me some with my cars. I am 13 so he is only going to show me how to make a car.....but will make it.....Thank you..
Hey,
