Best Casting Years for Racing

Preacher Saturday, 12/21/2013

I realize that this covers a HUGE area...but it seems to me that some of the newer cars that are coming out today don't really have an advantage when it comes to racing. It seems that some of the older castings had better weight, and made better speed. Most of the cars that are in my FAST case, would be in the 90's era, and a few 2008, and maybe a couple of 2012-2013...just wondering what the collective thinks about this.

Inflation. Unfortunately, Mattel had to start making the cars with plastic bases and cheaper wheel styles to keep the prices low.

Overall, I think there are cars from weight doesn't always win races.

I agree it is not just weight that matters. And there are so many other variables that it would be hard to pick just one year of production. I would have to say the original Redline era would hold the most "fastest" cars and the early FTE 1s production run years second.

I dont have that much exposure to the Hot Ones or Classics.

Totally agree...I guess its finding that right balance or "Sweet Spot" for a car to be a fast at the track.
