Best Timed Event

Preacher Sunday, 12/22/2013

Another topic for the new year...racing for the BEST TIMES. Since we recently got a race timer I was thinking it would be good to have some race events setup for the FASTEST, and SLOWEST times. Each car would have a total of three runs to post it Fastest or Slowest run in order to win. One race would be for the "Fastest of the Fastest, and the other would be crowned "Mr. Slowpoke". Do you think this would be something that racers might be interested in? Talk to me I'm listening.

Great idea!! In addition to "best time", you could also race for the most consistent times.

I've used run times as a pre-race "gauge" before. The Charm City HW Club uses an extended Expert Drag Track which also displays the run times @ the starting gate. I timed my own entries during warm-ups and also noted the times of a few competitor's cars. I figured that since the times were prominantly displayed in for win that day. Apparently, numbers don't lie.

Yeah...but finding a car that will run consistent times. I had a friend over and we ran the same cars back to back, only switching lane each race, and it was very surprising to see the time fluctuate. For the most part the winning car always won, but the times were constantly changing as much as 4 hundredths of a second between each car.

Preacher you should do a test session with your ideals at home - to see how much time it takes to record times, organize, analyze and report all you want to do! (Will you have help to track things as well?) Also consider the age of your audience - the younger kids will probably just want to race (and may not car who has the best time.)

Remember In order to go slow, you also have to finish the race.................or it's a loss.......

Consistent times sounds close to real bracket racing.

Yeah, we are sort of trying to fine tune the events for the next season. With the timer, races go much faster...all you have to do is run them one time and figure out the times, and sort them in 1st-3rd positions. But honestly, I think this is where the "Weight" factor comes into play, since the cars do not always run a "Consistent" time. It is better to group the cars according to "Weight" vs "Actual Times" because the Weight doesn't change. So in a sort of way it is "Bracket Racing"...at least I think it is.

Here, here...that's right, if it doesn't cross the finish line, it doesn't count.

I think it would be interesting to record the fastest five times that first race and then post them and see if someone can beat those times the next week and continue that to establish track records.

I like this idea....maybe have a plaque with the names and dates of those who set or broke the track record. It would be something we would display at our monthly event...another bragging rights sort of thing. It might encourage others to get serious with their racing...to get their names on the board. Just a thought
