Build Journal: Pine Hill Rally Course

The hill section has been added! It kind of needs walls though...

The hill section is almost complete! I think I am going to have to change the design around a little bit... Because I can't reach all the way to the back wall to get dnf'd cars! Lol

The hill section has been completed (for now) and painted.

Testing different vehicles down the track.

So... It's been awhile. I've been busy (or lazy) and haven't done much on the track until recently.

I built a new hill section, since the old one was not wide enough and the walls weren't working out. This one still needs a little work on the walls. On the exit of the hill section, it's looking like I might have to buy a spoolheads corner, since the CR turn is too banked and cars are flying off all over the place.

I don't have a pic, but I straightened out the little curvy section down below because there was little or no passing, and the cars were hitting the wall and stalling out too much.

That's it for now.

The problem with the hill section walls was that they were vertical, and the cars were rubbing. Added little strips of polywall along the edge and problem solved.

And whaddya know, I think I just build something that actually worked for a change. This turn just saved me $60... That would've been spent on a spoolheads turn. The exit straight still needs some adjustments (and the turn needs an inside wall), but other than that it's working good. I might post another video of running cars down it.

I made and installed the final turn to connect the two parts of the lower section. I'm also thinking that, instead of making a bumpy section, I'm just going to add one or two jumps on the upper section, and probably a "speed bump" ( or a speed 'jump'!) on the final straightaway.

Remember, if you want to send me a test car, feel free! I'd be willing to to a test race, or even an impromptu tournament once the track part itself is finished.

The track is now completely functional! Of course, there are a lot of things left to do, including probably changing out some of the CR track on the long straightaway for homemade stuff. Meanwhile I'm thinking up ideas that probably won't end up happening for the scenery.

I added a custom coroplast straightaway that merges into the turn, to replace the original CR track that was there. It tends to add even more chaos (I didn't think that was possible), but it reduces the DNF count.

I also have a pretty cool popsicle stick bridge that my Dad built. He's a bridge engineer. This might not be where it stays, I still have a lot of adjustments to make.

All in all, the track is running smoother than ever, but there's still a lot to work on! Also, I really need to get around to making a test video.

  • Nice bridge--I like it! — SpyDude
  • Thanks - me too. I think it won a popsicle stick bridge building contest (by holding the most weight) — ManiacMotorsports

I am amped to race there, looking very sweet!!

It's going to be fun!
