Build Journal: Pine Hill Rally Course

The old Maniac Mountain Speedway was demolished today to make room for the newest track in the garage: Pine Hill Rally Course! Inspired by GTR's Shavano Mountain Raceway, the track will be almost entirely homemade (if all goes according to plan...) Not much to show yet, but the 7 1/2 ft by 12 1/2 ft area is ready. Work on the benchwork will start tomorrow!
Discussion
So, I decided to change the layout of the track before it was too late. I realized that my original design wasnt going to work, especially for filming, among other things. I took it down and rebuilt in a simpler shape.
Here is the planned layout. It will probably change though. I just picked up a load of lumber and a sheet of polywall for the track surface; should be good to go for a while!
The "Bumpy Section" plus three proposed jumps make me smile, along with plans for a legit runout space after the finish. Are you thinking pebble-texture wainscoting/paneling for the bumpy straight? Also, do you see these jumps being smallest first, then growing in height for the other two?
- The jumps will probably change. As for the bumpy section, I was thinking something of like the rocks at the top of the Great Sand Dunes, only smaller so cars can make it. — ManiacMotorsports
More benchwork is finished!
First sections of track are laid! It's gonna take some more testing though.
If anyone wants to send me some test cars, please let me know on this thread or on private messages! I would be happy to do some testing videos.
The original straightaway to the finish was not very wide and didn't provide many passing opportunities, so I replaced it with a coroplast straight from the old MMS. I also got the S-Curves up and running well.
I finished the basic benchwork (including a wider piece of plywood for the 'bumpy section'). I also laid the next section of track, and the first jump. Believe it or not, the jump usually helps the cars run smoother through the turns. The estimated length of the track is around 45ft long.
Some more track tweaking and a new section. The S-curves are now more banked, because cars were hitting the wall and spinning out.
I'm also going to be starting a YT channel soon, so y'all can see progress on the track in video form, and hopefully mail-in tournaments before too long.
I'm getting excited to run on this track!
Beginnings of the benchwork.
