Building a track...idea for a race...

Hi Guys!

I'm hoping to spend a little time this weekend, working on my track...don't worry, I'll be posting pics of the build-up. I think you'll like what I'm going to be doing :)

Since I'll have a new track in the next few weeks...and I'm kinda new to this whole scene...I'm thinking about hosting a race on my new track. But, I want to keep it simple and fun!

I'm kinda liking the 'Workshop' series of cars that Hot Wheels is doing right now. So, I'm thinking about hosting a race where you send in your Workshop cars, new, in the package...and I'll race them, with the winner taking all! I'd probably do two races, with different starting heights (and, I might throw some more cool stuff in for the winner).

What do you think? I don't really know anything about prepping HW cars for racing...yet! So, I thought it would be fun to have a race with brand new cars. This won't be happening for a little while, but I'd like to hear any comments...and see if anyone would be interested in competing!

So, start looking for cool 'Workshop' cars, guys...and I'll get to work on the track this weekend!

Thanks!

Chris

Is it OK if I give an idea? How about a single elimination race instead of a double elimination. I've never cared for double elimination races, they don't make any sense, and I believe it should be; once you lose, you lose.

Thanks for the input guys!

I'm glad to see that you guys are up for some racing!

KandO, yeah, I agree...I think that races should be based off of 'full scale' races. Time the cars (even if you time them by hand), and set up your brackets 1-16 (or however many), #1 vs #16, 2 vs 15, etc, and if you lose, you are out...make sense?

Chris, I think that is a great idea! Qualifying them like an NHRA Pro Class would be the best way, for any race in my opinion. Sounds like this will be a fun race!

Yeah KandO, it only makes sense to me...otherwise, you might have your fastest two cars meeting in the early rounds. :)

If it's a stock tournament then I'll send in a car or two. I don't have time to mod anything of late but I can certainly find some on the pegs to send out. Glad to see another track option opening up too! Once you work out the kinks you can be part of tournament series and even a host for the Fantasy Leagues once they start back up.

Once you consider your event "official", go ahead and update the first post in your thread, or better yet, start a new topic that has all the who/what/where information and take more replies that way. Use on thread to get the interested level and flesh out ideas, then use another thread as the official sign-up topic that you use for posting results, photos, etc.

Creating a new topic might seem like an extra step or confusing but I think a new post eliminates people (especially new people) from having to sift through all the pre-event stuff, which often confuses them. All just a suggestion but I think will yield the best results and easy organization on the site.

I am hosting my first race event at the end of June and I am open to another host round if you want to make this a series.

Thanks Guys!

Good advice, Brian! I'm just kinda 'putting out feelers' with this post to see if people would be interested. I'll be putting up shots of the track once I start making a little progress! And, I'll make and 'official' announcement once I have the track ready!

Thanks Milton-Fox...I'll keep that in mind once I get a little closer to the event! :)

I think my local Walmart must have just restocked!

This WorkShop series could have some fun racing!

  • The Road Runner and Pickup are good picks in that bunch — redlinederby
  • Sounds great. I enjoy modding cars but its a nice change up to send in some stockers. — delta6
