DOUBLE BLIND TEST

IF I THOUGHT OF IT PROBABLY MOST HAVE...
DO 5 SPOKE WHEELS SLIDE ONTO FTE AXLES... THEY DO !... AND THEY SPIN LIKE CRAZY...
BECAUSE MANY OF US J.B. WELD OUR AXLES IN, IT WOULD BE HARD TO TELL ONCE ASSEMBLED....
BECAUSE MOST COULD DO THIS, AND IT IS TOUGH TO REGULATE,
SO... IS RESTRICTING FTE's NOT A FUTURE RECIPE FOR AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE ?...
IF FTE's ARE ALLOWED, THOSE AXLES, WITH BW, 5 SPOKE, PR 5, ETC. SHOULD NOT ALTER THE RACING.
I KNOW THIS IS A CAN OF WORMS... BUT I FELT IT FAIR TO SHARE THE WHEEL TO AXLE THING SO NO ONE FEELS I WAS SAVING IT FOR MYSELF... OH, AND THEY LOOK ALOT COOLER [TO ME] THAN THE FTE-WHEEL...
AND THERE ARE LOTS OF LARGE DIAMETER, NARROW, 5 SPOKES AND PR 5'S AVAILABLE... THE LIKE FTE'S ARE NOT

Looks like your saying FTE's should always be allowed in races.

I think you would have to be a good craftsman to pull off the switch. I and other people have thought about it before and in the forums the consensus was that it was more difficult than it was worth. That may change in the future?

If somebody started running away with races they might warrant a closer a closer look. Hey, come to think of it JDC442 and EconCarl have been running away with races recently ...I'm kidding of course.

Hell . . . I know JDC is cheating, 'cause I'm cheating and he always beats me! ...I'm kidding of course.

Can't be called a "Speed Secret" because there are too many differing opinions, but my axles are "floating", meaning that they aren't JB Welded in place. I use the interior of the cars to keep the axles located. When I first started racing Hot Wheels (a little over a year ago) I did JB Weld them in and I had a few come loose so I don't trust it to locate axles anymore. And IMO giving the axle the ability to spin reduces friction too (Hear that sound? It was a big ol' can of worms being opened!).

You can actually get back into yours, you have the best excuse to weld 'em down!

We're not only trying to build fast cars, they have to be endurance cars as well. If you use the factory method of keeping the axles pinned there is one less thing to go wrong when the cars are out there on the road.

indeed, but if a racer chooses to run an open wheeled car there is a chance of it being realigned after a bent axle...
i have not been able to straighten a free floating axle...

as for not beating stockers... isn't racing a car you built against the cars the other's build why we are here ?... sorry IMO

I've been around all forms or racing just about all of my life and one thing I've learned is there are people that like to race, and people that like to win! I do hear what your sayin' Smitty and I enjoy building these little cars, but if running stockers won races that's probably what I'd do!

Ya' gotta' start somewhere (racing stockers) and hopefully with a little encouragement others will realize the fun we have in building our own little racers.

I have yet to win, but I would hope I could build a better car than the factory. That is my goal..

For me, making changes to a stocker is part of the fun. I started customizing these little cars 12 years ago with wheel swaps, paint, decals, changing motors, etc. Last couple of years I've lost a little interest and hadn't done much. I been here for a few months and in my third mail in race and now it's about modding them to try and find more speed. Wanting to customize with paint and decals to build a cool car is fun again. Yeah, I'd like to see them all run fast, but it is what it is and I'll take it. The main thing I'm having is fun. Glad I was told about this site by Jeremy (LJLRC).

I suppose the actual process of choosing and building cars, maybe the anticipation of them turning out to be fast. Is the one of the funnest if not the funnest part for me personally. Then the testing is fun...until I find out how slow they really are then I'm briefly disappointing, but out of 5 cars there might be a respectable racer. Then the hope is reborn that there is a chance that my fastest car is faster than everybody else's. After that sending them away to race in a series is a lot of fun to follow but I don't think it's really ever mattered to me if I win or lose. (That's easy for me to say since my cars get beat up all the time) On the rare occasions when they actually do win though It's pretty satisfying, but by then I'm working on cars for the next race which again is probably the most fun for me.

Well I did the wheel/axle switch today and what I nightmare! I was going to quit after the first axle but I soldiered on and got it all done. Went to put the body on and it didn't fit! I put the big wheels in front and smalls in back! Oh, the whole thing was a terrible experience, but with practice I can see it working.
