Drag Track for Dummies
First I have to give credit for the idea for this track to whomever posted the wood accordion type track that was posted here.
I have zero technical skills and can barely hammer a nail without help. I did this all with very little trouble. Here is the equipment i used:
- 6ft Pine boards i think they measure 6ftx9.25in.. they cost $9.73 each, one board cut to 4ft for the stand
- 120ft (40ft per lane)of track or however much you want to run. the longer the strip the more accurate the race results. there is randomness to the victor on a short track. After 30 ft you get separation (separating men from the boys).
- 1-4in hinge...Angle of the slope is adjustable b/c of the hinge. 3ft height seems to get a more accurate race result..than the 4ft height.
- two small wood strips to stabilize the stand.
- styrofoam brick to stabilize the transition to the straightaway.
- Start and finish gate.
Catch Box
- 2-brackets with screws
- 3 small pieces of wood for the catch box, connected with the brackets. U-shaped
- Foam sheet $1 at a craft store
- Bubble sheet
- Self adhesive Velcro strips

Awesome! thanks for putting up pictures!
This track cost me about $200 even. it could be much cheaper if I went shorter and made it a two lane track.. it could be as low as $130 perhaps..

- Yeah, track ain't cheap when you're looking at 120-feet of track. — redlinederby
Great first track, Nothing...looks like lots of driveway to play on too, should be a lot of fun this summer.
You should talk to Smitty about getting a 4-lane transfer strip. It will help solve the transition from hill to straight and keep the track from giving in too much. You can see the transfer strip I got from him over on this post.
Wow! That is one loooonnngggg track! Can't wait to see some racing on it.
Good looking track...let me know if you ever want to host!
