Ferrari F40
I recently bought a second hand F40(hotwheels not the real thing sadly). It's a 1980s one, lovely car,not fantastic on the track and I'm in two minds whether to wheel swap or not. I've seen a gold F40 on Ebay for approx $20 still in its case so should be like new which i suppose you could say it is. What do people think about this, or what would people suggest is best one. I saw a utube video a while back,KOTH sort of thing and the winner raced the kids F40.F40 whooped its butt.
Seems i find a fast car and then after a while all the cars I buy after seem faster than it.

I realize that Ferrari F40 prices have jumped since Mattel's licence expired but $20 seems like a lot for what was a common ~30yr old mainline. I would hold out for a Collector #69, Gold Medal Speed version w/lace wheels (the car is red). Also, look for them @ flea markets, Goodwill, and estate sales...you're bound to find one for less than $20. After all, they did make a gazzilion of them.
And just for the record, while the F40 is probably one of the fastest modern mainlines, they're certainly beatable. They've become popular enough among racers and you're almost guaranteed to face at least one in the brackets of local club races and open racing events. I choose to use them as a benchmark during testing. If I find a car that is within a few thousandths of my fastest F40, I know I'm on the right track.
- I was able to land 2 red ultra Ferrari f40s in an eBay lot. I’m gonna save one for home but might mod one of them for a race if the opportunity arises — Kingjester
Stay away from eBay unless you can get it for $10. I would look elsewhere, they can be found for $5 often.
The f40 does have the potential to be a great car with the right mods, if it were me I would do a wheel swap and do some work on the axels to make it the fastest it can possibly be, then I'd add weight, I mean an hw f40 already clocks in at around 54 grams so it's already heavier than the average car. I would keep the paint the same because sometimes it's nice to keep that old look some more vintage hw cars have.
