Prepping for first race with kid
So i signed up to my/our first race. Have never modded a car and only started collecting cars over the last couple of months. My boy (11) has about 70 odd cars.. me about 40. mostly unopened till i have my track ready.
he already knows his fastest car from gutter racing in the garden. So after telling him iv entered us into a race we need to find the fasted we have or get a couple more we think might be fast or look good.
well iv ripped open a few to try and contend with his fast car all straight from blisterr including his one magic car that i just cant beat.
so the hunt is on... the excitment and bonding of trying to find a fast car to graphite up, maybe add weights. Even just the thrill of racing on an unfinshed track knowing we have a goal together is exillerating.
when i first starting gathering supplies to try out this sport i never imagined how immersive it would be .
iv about 2 weeks to figure out how to make a car go faster but not just adding graphite... but finding fast wheels and a fast body then blending them together.
guess i just want to say now that i have thrown my hat into the ring things have gotten alot more fun that just lurking on the site to actually participating..might be first knocked out but thats part ofthe thrill and learning process.. so things just got a whole lot more intersting lol

First option: sand the wheels. Each wheel is made in a mold, and there is a mold line where the edges come together. This causes the car to rumble when rolled. Drag a fingernail over the tread surface of the wheel, and your fingernail will catch on the mold line - that needs to come off (the line, not your fingernail!) Smoother generally equals faster.
I'm a noob racer too. What race(s) are you guys entering first? Seems like most everything is full
- no worries... be patient and keep an eye open! They pop up either here or on youtube. Sub to a few diecast car track sites and you will see them there as well. — Stoopid_Fish_Racing
- MCR New years Battle Royal is our first race — WolfHound
Welcome Mate! Keeping it Fun is the way to go, Lots to look up in the Arcives to tap into.
im hearing super glue is a bad idea for closing cars and fixing weights.
Is 2 part epoxy resin ok to use?
- if use super glue use the gel kind. The regular will run down the axle and into wheels(bad). — Redline_Salvage_Inc
- E6000 is my go-to. Nice thick gel, sets in 20 minutes, acts like rubber cement - hood bond but can be cut away if needed to open the car again. — SpyDude
- E6000 or JB Kwik epoxy always worked for me without issues. — redlinederby
- E-6000... my go to... — Stoopid_Fish_Racing
the time to ship is getting VERY close. the weights iv ordered still havent arrived so i tried a few fishing weights and secured in epoxy on one car
not happy with the so little grams added. so i searched the site and saw tungten putty was an option. Orderd that and should have it in time for get 1 car up to weight limit.
I have had trouble with deadlines during my rookie year (only dropped one)
project(s) creap if I don't watch it, and too many "other things" intrude in the timing
I have cut the timing way too close, so hopefully thats a helpful hint....
That said, I think, the weights look fine to me
in the mail and not perfect, vs not get it there?
you know that answer
I got screwed up w/ Amazon delivering me micromachine for the joust to build, time got short too,
built another good car.
a week before sending the joust team out,
the micro machine trash truck showed up, and I had bought a HW peg hanger,
so I sent 2 extra cars, both in an alt team
they will probably beat my main team...lol
You just go with the flow...lol
and make sure you are having fun!
Good Luck, See Ya on the track!
