Track Building and BuyingFTE vs FTE 2

THAT WAS A COOL TEST VIDEO... GLAD THE OLDIES SPANKED THE NEWBIES.... AS FAR AS LOOKS...FTE...

Whoa! Wussup widdat indeed! I wonder why the cars of coming off the track...

I better go stock up on older FTE's quickly for parts!

Thanks for the video

Nice video! I don't plan to ever buy any FTE2 cars. Hope they continue releasing both wheels for each model as they've been doing so far.

Nicely documented, markkaz. Just curious, what caused the 'wrecks'...excessive oscillations(tracking issues)?...wheels locking up?

People on HWC are speculating that the actual texture
of the outside of the wheel may be causing it to wreck.
I will make another video looking much closer at the
rims. Maybe they stick out a bit and when they hit the
sidelines of the lanes, they bump into it and catapult
the car into the air.

I will be looking at the later this week.

Yea, now that you mention it I could see how that would be possible. Maybe the wheel faces could be filed or sanded down to prevent it? Of coarse, then you'd be stuck with a fast car that has ugly looking wheels...not that they're very appealing to begin with.

ditto on the wheels, they could not be uglier if flat...

Send 3 here for further testing. I'll get 'em in round 3 under your name. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRFIvsDMAMw

They'd probably do just fine on your track, George. The "problem" w/the FTE2 wheels that markkaz showed us only seems to occur on orange track after the cars come up to speed.

i was repairing a wide truck, testing it for clearance...on orange track it rolled fine and then stopped..after some checking, the track edges taper side to side... the angle changes, top to bottom... mostly in the transfer... can the FTE IIs wheels be CLIMBING up the changing taper on the track sides ? i don't know as i race 5 spokes...

I dunno, Smitty. I examined the FTE2s on my Javelin and easily captured close-up on video with a HW Video Racer, a long track, and a bit of patience.

i'm cool with the video and long track but patience.............. racer's disfunction...

May the maligned FTE2s find success here where the walls are unclimbable. But only if a curious toyhead would drop some in the mail. Only FTE to be in a race here was a "Fast Fish" last year that crapped out early and was replaced. Have a couple 458s as replacements for last-place cars after the halfway point in the current series to bring up the tail.

I've got new FTE's on my Astro Funk on the Downhill circuit and as fas as I know it hasn't flown off the track yet...and it's not too heavy.

I'll have to do some testing soon

I've got new FTE's on my Astro Funk . . .

Howz about a pic, I'll bet it looks fUnKy!!!

Nice!

Nice!

ditto!!

Jobe, does it roll better w/the wheel upgrade?

Hell yes it does. Those little pizza cutters suck ass.

I did a little expermenting of my own this weekend with the new FTE wheels...and I'll have to say I don't like them!

The gold sections protrude from the outside of the wheel and actually rub on the sidewall of the orange track.
So if the car runs along one side of the track or the other it's getting slowed down by the wheels.

I was testing a Ferrari California and it tended to run along the right side of the track and you could hear the wheels rubbing.

lame!

I'm hunting what is left of the older FTE cars in the stores now.

Here's my follow-up video:

Definitely bumpy sides!

JUST MOVING THIS THREAD BACK TO THE TOP FOR T.L.D...

I put those FTE 2's on a Super Van that I loaded with weights. The good news is it has won some races. The bad news is, It crashes in the transition from the downhill to the flat straight away and wins the races sliding down the track upside down on its roof. I assumed that the track needs some support under the track in the transition due to the extra weight of the van. I have a Funny car that has the same problem. The track needs some fine tuning.
