Gaugemaster
I'm starting to get into open track rather than orange track and looking at some diorama.
I have found a selection of kits by a company called gaugemaster, might only be British based but still,has anyone had experience of these,they look really good and are in my price range but they are 1/76.I know its about the racing but do you think the scale will be OK?

I feel you may find that too small... look for train S guage... it is 1/64...
For simple building along parts of the track that cars will pass quickly, you can use very simple cardboard boxes with printed frontages just glued onto them - I did this for my first track, I had a basic box and printed out on my home printer some brick building frontages and glued them onto the box, and they look fine on camera. Think like a simple brick building, storefront etc, rather than something where you see inside, but you can also still add lights or simple windows if you want too. If it's an area that will get a lot of footage, start/finish or areas where crashes happen, then I'd put the time and money into those buidlings, but most of the time, the cars fly past and you never get to see the detaila. You can always upgrade and change out the buildings as time and budget allow too.
There is a fair bit of 1/64 scale dioramas on Etsy.com for reasonable $$. Innovativehobbysupply.com carries a large selection of multi scale paper cutouts for dioramas.
