West Coast Wheels Highlights
Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox

ROUND ONE: I had high hopes for my brand new out of the package Brit Speed, looking sharp in British green, but the Chrysler Pronto which had raced in the last Washington tournaments got off to a great start by easily defeating its never-been-raced before opponent.
The Impala FTE came into this tournament 0-1 having lost to a super speedy Dodge Challenger Funny Car in last weeks races, but made it past the Ford Thunderbolt, yet only by a thread.
The COPO Vette showed that it was going to be a tough competitor, flying down the track with laser speed, making easy work of the 2002 First Edition ‘68 Cougar.
The Govner, which if you follow the threads, read that it took a bath (literally) a couple weeks before, when my son Calvin tossed it in the bathtub. However, it had no problem putting away the Technetium to close out the first round.
ROUND TWO: The Ford GT LM in yellow (another fresh out of the package car) made it to round two by putting aside the 2011 Camaro, but was no match for the Chrysler Pronto in the first race of this second round.
The next race featured a bout between modern and classic muscle where the 2010 Impala with FTE shoes, out-paced the 67 GTO in a couple close races.
The COPO Vette jumped pass the Enzo Ferrari early, just as the Corolla FTE had in round one, , but this time the Enzo could not catch up to the blistering speed of the sharp looking Corvette.
The closest race of the tournament featured the once-waterlogged Govner and the Fast Fish. The blow drying the Govner received post-bath, must have worked as it was victorious once again, leaving it’s FTE opponent a Fast Fish out-of-water, after three races.
Round 3:
The THIRD ROUND saw the Chrysler ‘Pronto’ living up to its name, quickly putting away the Impala FTE in this semi final while the Govner took charge once again beating the speedy COPO vette in two consecutive races to make it to the final.
FINAL: The Govner was nothing but impressive making it past the first three rounds although having once become a submersible (and not a color changing Hot Wheel), yet it didn’t have enough authority to outlast the Chrysler Pronto who showed everyone who was really in charge of this West Coast Wheels tournament.

ROUND ONE: The Fire Eater’s shear mass was more than enough to blow the doors off the Austin Healy in the second heat of round one. It took off down the track like there was a fire somewhere it needed to put out.
The Mercedes SLK was another fresh-out-of the package car(a 1998 First Edition model) that’s speed certainly surprised me. It took it to the Bird, beating it by over a car’s length in its first bout.
Two all-metal sharp-dressed Ferrari’s took to the track in the 6th race of round one in what I believed was a toss-up race. The chocolate brown 308 just barely slipped past its yellow 365 opponent to move on to round two.
The last race of the first round featured the runner up of the Washington Rollers tournament held in season 6. This silver, 55 gram Screamin’ Hauler had its work cut out for it going against a chubby 58 gram Porsche 928. However the Scream looked every bit the serious contender, easily ousting the gold coated 928, beating it by a couple car lengths in both lanes.
ROUND 2: The first race of this round featured another freshly-opened car. A dark brown hot-tempered Dieselboy rolled up against an amped-up Fire Eater. The flashy fire truck put out Dieselboy’s fire in two close races moving on to the semi-final.
The SLK was a yellow streak, shutting down a not-quite-fast-enough Way 2 Fast in both lanes.
The third heat of this round saw the Ferrari in brown, snicker as it flew by it’s 46 gram opponent, never looking back in two easy victories.
Another competitor seen in the last Washington-held races from season 6, a white Sweet 16, put up a good fight against the Screamin’ Hauler, but could not muster enough speed to match the lightning fast silver-streakin’ racer.
ROUND THREE: The Fire Eater took on the SLK with high hopes of making it to the final, but the yellow speedster Mercedes had other plans beating the fire truck in both races.
A fast Ferrari 308 wasn’t fast enough going up against the ‘Scream,’ which easily moved into the championship round, taking down the Ferrari in a couple fast-paced runs.
FINAL: The Hauler wasn’t going to settle for second best this time around as it flashed on toward the finish at blistering speed putting away the SLK and taking the Pacific Heavy Weights championship.
