HW Delivery racers

cdg Monday, 3/28/2011

I was looking at the Hot Wheels Delivery series of trucks. They are metal/metal and very weighty, some are streamlined as well.

Has anyone used these for racing ? I think some may be too wide for standard orange track.

THey fit on the track, but the lower sides of the body drags on the sidewalls since the tires are recessed.
I've not found an all metal one, most have plastic chassis's that I've found.

I have a few Hot Wheels Delivery vehicles and yes they are heavy. They're just too darn pretty (and spendy), so I haven't taken them out of the package. They're hanging on my wall right now. Some would say they were 'wall flowers' and need to get onto the dance floor. Perhaps they would be right???

I two I have have plastic wheels. I know you can get versions with the real rider wheels...which everyone knows sucks on plastic track!

I have a few Dairy Deliveries in my stash and they are horrible doing down the track unmodded. They wobble a lot and their sheer size can create rubbing issues.

I haven't modded any for racing but I imagine if you put some FTE wheels on there, do some body trimming and a little extra work, they could be monsters.

But like Jim says, Dairies are few and far between on the pegs so I tend to buy them when I see them and put them aside intended for paint job customs. That's a lot of real estate to work with. Of course, I haven't done jack with the ones I have, so I should just take one and make it a racer and see what happens.

I'll document it and watch all the collectors weep when they see me take a Dremel to it.

Why are these so popular with the collectors? I don't understand it. Same with the VW drag bus, been trying to get one of those for awhile, but I'm not paying more than a few bucks for one...then trying to find one with the plastic wheels on it is hard as well.

I think it's because they are so easily customed with stickers or paint or whatever. I hate the Drag Bus just because I see it every time someone announces a custom or for a convention, it's always the Bus.

Not like I have any room to talk but painting what is essentially a big canvas of a bus/truck is pretty easy. You just need good design creative. I'd be much more impressed to see some crazy custom cars or something. And not just a logo car, but real custom work. I really admire the one-off customs.

Plus I'm sure the truck/bus are in limited release each year? I dunno. I just remember when I saw the Dairy trucks on the pegs I freaked and bought them all. Given how "collectible" they are I was shocked to see them, I guess.

Here's the one I have:
Diecast Cars, Hot Wheels, Matchbox
