Raining like crazy in Iowa today and supposed to keep raining for the next few days, not sure if they will get the Indy 500 in on time or not but...

On the eve of the Indianapolis 500, Hot Wheels will set a world record by building the longest toy track set in history on Saturday, May 25. Competing in the Hot Wheels “World’s Best Driver Championship,” four toy-size cars will race the one-mile-long, iconic four-lane Hot Wheels track built on the front straightaway of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Coached by racing legends Mario and John Andretti and two others, four lucky kids will compete head-to-head in the Hot Wheels race.

More than 1,000 pieces of custom-made Hot Wheels track will be used to build the raceway. Alexandria Industries manufactured the nearly 4,700 pounds of aluminum extrusions to withstand outdoor elements such as heat and rain. Kids can recreate the Hot Wheels World’s Best Driver Championship racetrack by visiting BuildYourTrack.com.

Fun Facts: World’s Best Driver Championship:

•Four lucky kids will compete in the race, coached by the likes of racing legends Mario Andretti and John Andretti

My opinion? While I genuinely appreciate Mattel's attempt to demo these really pay attention.

lol...a one mile downhill ramp might give new meaning to the term "Hot" wheels.

They did attempt to do a 1/4 mile but the weather wasn't helpful. They did rig a HW on full size tire with the car jacked up off the ground and got the tire going 80 real miles per hour and the HW tires held together. 80 x 64 = 5120 scale miles per hour.

True, but no one said the airplanes @ speeds above 40mph.
