Including photos in your posts

The new Redline Derby web site does not support the old bulletin board style code, called "bbcode", that was written using square bracket - like [url] [img] and [color]

Since the new site uses live preview as you type and add media, the bbcode shorthand isn't needed.

Popular photo hosting sites, like PhotoBucket, offer several links you can copy and paste to post elsewhere on the internet, including message boards. The link you used when posting images on the old web site may not work on the new web site. If you see a square bracket, it won't work.

The link you need now is what is often called the direct link, which is just a web link pointing to you image without a link back to the host site.

If you find your images are not showing up as they did before, check the link that you're using and try a different one.

As an example, here is the link you'll need if you use PhotoBucket

Once you have your link, give yourself a new line when you're making your reply and then click the image icon in the toolbar. When you do that a yellow text box should appear. Paste the image link in that box and then click the OK button. Your image should appear in your post and you can continue writing.

Feel free to test your image posting in a reply to this topic.

Hoping this doesnt cause more confusion for others, but as Brian keeps posting.  The new image posting function does the 'coding' (img or url) that we used to have to do to get a picture image posted here.  Remember you had to have a certain maximum size or you couldnt see the whole picture.  In reality it allowed you to over code an image file and it would still post it on the old system.

Think of it now as just inserting a file name (no coding text) and not as a picture.  You only need to give the address of where the image is stored (file name) and the system will find it for you, reformat it for size and structure and it will show up here.

If you have not done web design before - that may not make sense, but what it means for you - is that you have to use a clean file name only now.  Each image size available has a different file name address.  Then copy and paste only that file name here!  The best place to do that from is from the "download/share/sizes page" of your individual photo sharing site.

The system now does all the rest.

Go to the test and practice thread and look at the two photos I posted there.

I did not use the image icon for either but did a straight copy from a web page and paste to the share your thoughts box using the "copy image" option when you right click on a photo.  When you paste the image shows up instantly.  This way may be the easiest method to paste a photo here that I have found so far. :)

Also worth noting that image size -the width - no longer matters. Upload what you have and it will work. No more chopping off the edge of photos.

Had an issue on phone apps from another thread - where the 6 edit buttons did not show up on the screen.

I was wondering if the (new) editor help drop down menu was there or not?

The toolbar does not appear on touch devices because they have built-in options for styling text that should work on the site. They did in my tests, anyway. Plus highlighting and clicking on a phone is less than ideal.

However, Im also looking into adding a way to insert images without having to use the toolbar.

Once that update goes out we'll see how people feel and then decide if its worth putting buttons back on for touch.
