JB Weld / Super Glue

tastelikedirt Sunday, 1/22/2012

Anybody had trouble with JB Weld not holding onto plastic. Plastic chassis to be exact? Will super glue work just as well?

Can Super glue be used to hold windshields to the inner roof? Any problems with Super Glue meets plastic.

I'm thinking of cars that will be taking a beating racing.

i use LOCK-TITE brand, STIK'N SEAL product name. for glass, int., and body to base, loves plastic but won't hold axles down...
but, having had the J.B. WELD come loose is a bummer, i have now started to drill a very small hole through the base where the axle will pass over it, then countersink from the bottom, this creates a J.B. WELD "rivit"...

I use some 5 minute epoxy I get at Harbor Freight for $2 for everything. It dries clear as a bonus.
Don't use super glue on axles, it will run down the axles and get on the wheel hubs.

You do this with JB Weld. That's pretty tricky.

i don't drill the hole when the metal base has swedge pronges [axle attatchment] protruding upward, haven't ever had one of those let go...
also wash any base with rubbing alcohol, [careful, it takes the chrome off hot wheels ], most materials have a mold release sprayed into the mold before casting...

Rubbing alcohol takes the chrome off the wheels or the base?
I've been using fingernail polish remover to dechrome wheels, but you have to be careful as it starts to kind of melt the plastic! I also use it to detampo cars.

WHEELS,
DITTI ON THE PRE-MELT... THOUGHT I WOULD CLEAN THE AXLES AFTER MICRO-POLISHING - NO, NO, NO

I use non acetone fingernail polish remover for taking of tampos. I've read it isn't as strong and your less likely to take off paint. Just takes some extra rubbing. Although some tampos seem to come off super easy anyway (along with the metalflake).

Smitty's Rivit

.not only do i like CARL's new bone shaker body more than the old one, but i used his red wheels on a 113 gram H.D.S. III racer, and his plastic base is under a 35 grammer...3 for 3... thanks carl !

serendipity strikes again.... there i was aircraft stripping a half packard and i noticed that the recycled hot wheels card was crinkalin', [ i had previously mixed J.B. WELD on it ]... well, i now know that aircraft stripper will DESOLVE hardened J.B. WELD ! ... handy ?

Nice, that is a good thing to know.
