Johnny Lightning Fantasy League?

I wanted to know if you would do a Johnny Lightning Fantasy League just like you do with the Hot Wheels? The club could donate some Johnny Lightning cars for the league. Let me know what you think!

I think that's a great idea and I'd be all for helping build something like the RLD Fantasy League for you guys to use, however it's just not as easy as copying what I have and re-using it, unfortunately. But I see the JL Fantasy League working just like our Hot Wheels one but you'd be the one running all the races. Since you have the Johnny collection and track ready to go it doesn't make much sense to send them anywhere. Just do like I do...enter the cars with photos as you get them, people could enter cars and then you race them and post the results. I'd love to play in a league that I'm not running! And I don't have any JL cars so playing would be a great way to get into the brand, see the cars and see how they perform.

But like I said, turning the Fantasy League game into a product that others can use is a long term goal. I would love to see Redline Derby expand into other brands. You'd come to the site and you could then choose to play in the Hot Wheels league or the Lightning league or both! And maybe some day if someone with a huge Matchbox collection comes along we expand into that as well. Just thinking about that gets me all giddy but I need to make sure I'm building it correctly. There are a lot "extra" steps that I have to go through to keep the online stuff running that are technical code and stuff, those would obviously have to be eliminated. If anything, expansion is the perfect excuse for me to (re)build the League the way I've always wanted.

So, in short, I'd love to do a JL Fantasy League and I can start planning for it but it's not something that will be done overnight. But while I'm working on that, if you want to do some trials for a JL fantasy league, you should try to use the forum. Worpex has done a Public Choice tournament where he picks the cars but then other members select the car the want to represent them...he races, logs the results, everyone gets points...smiles all around. It's not as "automatic" as the Fantasy League game but it works and might be good to test the waters.

I could envision a Johnny Lightning vs Hot Wheel 'Super Bowl' (AFC vs NFC type thing) in the future -the top JLs vs the top HWs at the end of a season.

Brian, I am thinking of trying one fantasy league race out at our August 12th meeting. I could post pictures of the 16 Johnny Lightning cars on here and also our facebook page for other people to get in on it. I have well over 2000 Johnny Lightning cars in my own collection plus I can get more donations from members in the club. I am looking foward to it! We could also be a track host for your Hot Wheels Fantasy League. We run a 24ft. track with a MicroWizard finish line. It's a fast track as we have seen many records set and broken on it. LET'S RACE!

This sounds like an awesome idea and I like the idea of the JL vs HW pro bowl event. It would be incredible if I could get a hold and be able to host my own fantasy league, ratings and all, with my own collection. That would be a dream come true!

@MicJiggles - Turning the Fantasy League into a service app like we're talking, using it to run your own Fantasy League would be a possibility. The real trick at that point is how to manage all the car data...is it all separate? Do we merge stats? How do we ensure everything is up to standards? ...those type questions start to creep up. I know I'm thinking too far ahead already but those things need to be considered before you even start building.

@JohnnyL - I'd love to have your track be a stop on the Fantasy League circuit...the only trick is you need a good stock of Hot Wheels ready to go. We don't really ship the cars for the Fantasy League races, hosts have to have a portion of their collection match mine. Since League races are scheduled somewhat ahead of time and happen on a very short timeline, running cars through the mail just ends up being more of a worry (and expense) for everyone. But if you get a collection of at least 100 HW cars, let me know and we'll set you up to be a host.

Well I dot think there should be more than one league (aka yours) and anyone else who had one could just run their own races keep their own stats and such. Then the stats wouldn't be necessarily merged but what you could do is on the car profile page on your site there could be links to show the stats of that car in another league. Just a thought, I don't know if it would help others make there picks... All I know is I'd LOVE to keep my own stats on my cars
