my experiments have also used super caps.  cheap source for them, the crash racer cars
2.2 volts, charges instantly.  a charge on a cap w/red/blue flash ran about 4 hrs both flash,
and at 8-9 hrs the red was flashing, but barely visible.  used 1 led, 5 f  cap out of a crash track car
fiber optics to the light spots in the body. and controll the light leakage
you can heat and reshape the ends of plastic fiber,
hot glue is a bad choice, melts the coating on the fiber
never tried any glues, but careful of the coating

settled on my old reliable metal tape which does well to hold it down
copper tape (stained glass stuff) conducts, so you can make a circuit board in the glass
no need for wires, tape and the leads
also use metal tape to block/control stray light

no working prototypes currently, because I am building my 1:1 custom car,
but I have converted some of the 72 dart's lights to leds,
and planning an interesting interior &dashboard that is all led lit,
and super caps for delaying them going off
