Lightweight to heavyweight classes, ranges
I'm looking to create 3 weight classes to help organize the upcoming monthly tournaments...what do you consider good weight ranges for each of the following?
- Lightweight
- Middleweight
- Heavyweight
Weight will always be denoted in grams.
My thought:
- Lightweight, 0g - 39g
- Middleweight, 40g - 59g
- Heavyweight, 60g - 80g
What say you?
Discussion
I'm kinda with Smitty...I think the best racing is 57 grams and under. I'd say run Lightweight at under 40 grams (the Trans Am cars were 40 grams...good racing...35 is pretty light)...Middleweight to be 40-57 (the Sedans, were 57 grams...super quick)....and Heavyweight to be 58-75 gram (though I know people will want the upper limit to be higher...but, if you are running Drag Track, the heavier cars are hard on the start gate).
Have most races be either Light or Middle...occasionally run a Heavy class, giving ample time for the build.
My two cents
I would like to see a 75-85g class, funny cars, JL, tiger wheels some fast heavy cars in there I would hate to exclude.
Old thread but good. 80g is a great
I roll em like this
30.99g and under
31-40.99g
41-50.99g
51-61.99g
62g and up
And that goes for stocks and mods
Followed YNR's example and have weight classes separated also by vehicle construction. Yes, this is neurotic and way more work, but allows other vehicles to have a chance to shine in classes that are often dominated by 'usual suspects'. Plus I have over 6k loose cars and this helps organization, haha.
So I do 30g and under, wide-open.
30.1-40 Metal Base, Plastic Base, Full Metal
40.1-50 MB/PB/FM
50.1-60 MB/PB/FM
60.1-70
70+
I'm also into separating niche vehicles like JL and vintage Redlines, but that's my deal. Anything that's elite in those classes tries their hand at the normal weight rankings.
IMO:
