Modding vs Customizing, is there a difference?

I know this sounds like a silly question but when it comes to talking to people that are not familiar with what we do here, what is the difference between "modding" and "customizing"?

If someone says they "mod" Hot Wheels, what do you think?

When someone says they make "custom" Hot Wheels, what do you think?

Just trying to get things clear in my head so I can label and organize things better around here.

But...to me, when someone says they make "custom" Hot Wheels, I think of show cars. Making them pretty without any intent to roll or race. "Modding" on the other hand makes me think they're building cars for action in some form...doesn't mean they can't be pretty but their goal isn't to win a beauty contest.

Your thoughts?

Yeah, customizers  tend to care more how the car looks (doesn't matter if if even rolls as long as it looks cool). People are modding their cars to perform (looks are cool but secondary to performance)

Cool...that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure. I'll be re-labeling some things around here to help drive that point a little. I've been pretty inconsistent, time I remedy that.

I realize what I said 'bout the Chevy that won might sound harsh, no I'll will intended. I think it is cool. A "Sleeper" if you will.  Impressed!!

GOOD RACE!!

GOOD JOB DONE BY ALL!!!!!
